Fellow instructors: as my Spring 2026 course load is uncertain, I'm seeking to broaden my professional network. Please let me know if your department might have open online sections of English Composition.

Good Fast Times article on New York Times headlines. I was interviewed. One thing I should have noted: the rage-bait comes increasingly from the opinions section.

Annoyed by a 'New York Times' headline? It seems like that's increasingly the Gray Lady's goal
Several ‘New York Times’ headlines in 2025 have earned severe social media backlash. Is it happening on purpose?

I have to pick a Secret Santa record for my LP Buy/Sell/Trade group. It has to be something that Person X is not likely to have, but would like. What should it be?

The difference between the dot-com bubble of the late 90s and the current AI bubble was that normal people actually liked the internet and thought it was useful—without it being shoved down our throats

Trump’s response to Mamdani was the most utterly predictable thing imaginable. Coming soon: the inevitable whiplash of the serial abuser

Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

I honestly believe College students turn to AI for the same reasons they use drugs and alcohol. Yet we don’t often hear of admin urging instructors to incorporate the latter into their course design

The new album from @goldenbrownmusic.bsky.social was one of my favorite finds from last week.

🎧 Western landscape paintings created with a palette of guitar, cello and electronics.

Had to take Wilkie to the vet today. He's been having digestive issues. Luckily it's nothing serious, just kitty IBS from stress. Feel ya, bud!

RIP Gary "Mani" Mounfield of The Stone Roses. Time for a little internet math: it's now 36 years since their 1989 debut. By contrast, the 60s music they referenced was only 20–25 years old back then.

Universal Audio is running a sale, so I grabbed Neve summing at a nice price. Not a plug-in guy, but this sounds pretty boss on mixes.

"AI isn't going anywhere." Bro, AI ain't even here. What we have is a predictive text algorithm and thirsty plagiarism machine.

I have a few online students who continue to use AI to produce essays with massive factual errors even after repeated warnings. I'm at my wit's end with this shit and honestly don't know what to do—any ideas? Would prefer to make a positive intervention, but maybe failing them is the only option?
