It's incredibly tempting to share posts that fit our worldview, but aggregator accounts that don't cite their sources are incredibly bad for the information environment.

At best they steal stories from outlets that actually did the work, and at worst they make stuff up or get stuff wrong.

I’ve had to explain how ending texts in periods comes off terse, and that it’s a recent and generational thing, so maybe this is their version of that? It also strikes me as something people do when they’re not thoughtful about their writing. Yet I still want to ask what they think they’re doing.

So that's the lesson that pops up for me with AI stuff--when evaluating now, I look at whatever the focus is NOT on.

This isn't to say AI won't eventually be good enough to smooth out everything, but right now it can't. The tells are outside what the video/image wants you to focus on.

"Beyond the Goo" would be a good title for a memoir

That's when I decided: I'll go with the graveyard photos for one album, and then use the statuettes for a second album. I already had more than enough works-in-progress to make two albums worth of music, and thus the plan expanded.

So I had the idea to buy angel statuettes and figurines that I could photograph and manipulate, even break. One of those photo experiments led to a shot that struck me as perfect for an album cover--but I already HAD the cover! It's what gave me the title for "Broken Angels" in the first place!

So I had a bit more direction to bolster me, and I started using other photos from that graveyard for album art. But by the time I started focusing on Broken Angels, the pandemic had begun, and I wasn't about to leave the house to take more photos.

There were other interests and distractions, and it was always easier to make an album that didn't have a vague-but-specific sound assigned to it. In 2017, I took a photograph in a graveyard that became the cover and inspired the title of that "hot metal" idea: traiken.bandcamp.com/album/broken...
