A friend of mine likes to say that Republicans don't know how to be in the majority and Democrats don't know how to be in the minority. Even when Democrats are in the minority, they still have the impulse to govern. It's why Democrats don't have an equivalent of Ted Cruz or Marjorie Taylor Greene
(whispering): the Dems are actually pretty good at legislating in the minority
Side note: The HHS appropriations bill that passed as part of the minibus has ZERO anti-trans riders in it. It will almost certainly pass the House.

They aren’t backing down. They’re just threatening people in other cities. Still illegal. Still unconstitutional. Even if they haven’t yet backed it up by shooting someone in the face.
ICE is changing tactics in Maine: "Now, the volunteers in Maine say federal agents have started showing up at their homes and intimidating them or threatening arrest. Some of them, masked and wearing tactical gear, have issued stark warnings not to follow them." www.pressherald.com/2026/01/23/i...

It's easy to oppose fascism once it has come out into the open & is shooting innocent women in the face.

What's more difficult is a) foreseeing this as inevitable if Trump wins & b) working to prevent his victory, even if c) that means you have to be cringe & stump for Harris.

The party that has spent unlimited resources and energy getting states to pass laws to allow citizens to openly carry loaded weapons anywhere - now believes that exercising this right is permission for law enforcement to murder you.

Honestly, how dumb do they think we are?

It should freak the American people out that Trump, Noem and Bovino lie so enthusiastically. He wasn't "brandishing a weapon". He wasn't attending a "riot" or "interfering in a crime scene". He was an ICU nurse exercising his constitutional rights.

We saw what we saw.

when they say that everyone should have a right to carry a weapon in public they mean only loyal Republicans have a right to carry a weapon in public. if you don't agree them politically and you carry a weapon then that's justification for them to shoot you dead.

Pretti stepped up for a woman who’d been assaulted. He exercised his rights in the face of actual tyranny, not from a podcast booth. He seemed moral and decent. His valor reminds pus stains like Patel, Berry, & Watters that their macho shtick is sad and hollow. *Of course* they celebrate his murder.

I’ll continue to listen and defer to subject area experts about what the state of the law is and the rationale for the rules we have, while I hold the position that warrants should be required as a public policy matter. But my semi-amateur view says the constitution requires that anyway.

A society that has any aspiration to be free and democratic cannot - it must not! - tolerate the existence of an agency like ICE.

In both personnel and institutionalized culture, ICE is a stronghold of violent authoritarianism, simply incompatible with the fundamental values of a democratic society
