Dude, they would saw off Lincoln's head and put a gold Donny bust on there tonight, if they thought they could get away with it

This isn't... I mean, it's an easy 20/20, sure, but I've used a full half dozen of these this calendar year. Was this supposed to be some kind of geezer-gotcha situation?

When I interviewed Spinal Tap and Marty DiBergi this summer, none of them broke character, for the whole hour. Except Rob Reiner, once, losing it when Michael McKean's David St Hubbins talked about minimalism. I didn't use this in the feature and hadn't published any audio, but this is joyful.

One way that the reaction to Rob Reiner's murder mirrors Charlie Kirk's is that the best way to eulogize each of them is to quote their words, and in both cases, doing so pisses off conservatives.
Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."

I will be angry about this until I draw my last breath.
25 years ago today, SCOTUS elected George W Bush president of the United States by blocking completion of a voting canvass in Florida. A subsequent canvass by the Associated Press showed that Bush's rival, Al Gore, had won the race in Florida—and thus the contest for the presidency—by 700 votes.

i think a (perhaps underappreciated) aspect of this whole situation is the extent to which every elite profession is filled with people who excel at drawing attention and want to be famous more than they want to do the actual job

So I've been looking to blow up my #letterboxd Top Four for a while. I still love all these films unreservedly, but those faves have been static for a bit, and I feel the need to shake things up.

Maybe get out of the 1960s a bit too, in either direction.
