"I bet that blue key would open the blue door."

Shut up. You see this fire hydrant? This is custom built to match the environment! This represents a day (or more!) of some artist's life. Allow me to admire it for a bit, okay?

(Proceeds to smack it with a bat to see if it's part of the physics sim)

After originally saying I'd get them Nov 3rd, then Nov 6th, then *Jan 8th*, now apparently my Galaxy XR controllers have shipped and will get to me Monday? 🤨

Haven't seen any OS captured, I recall hearing at least one reporter say they saw a very Steam-Deck-like UI. Upload VR said they used Chrome with it in a Linux mode. Also saw a comment from Valve saying they want to make it easy to pull up a browser any time. No mention of WebXR.

Given the current implementation state, and the fact that it is an ARM device, I suspect that the WebXR backend for Android (used by Galaxy XR) will be the easiest/fastest route for Chrome.

In www.uploadvr.com/valve-steam-... they mention using Chrome in the Linux desktop. The headset also apparently runs Android APKs? So I'm sure there's going to be multiple routes to run Chrome, WebXR is an unknown. Given that it's OpenXR-based, though, I think it wouldn't be too hard?
Steam Frame Hands-On: UploadVR's Impressions Of Valve's New Headset
UploadVR's Ian Hamilton and David Heaney went hands-on with Steam Frame at Valve HQ, trying both standalone use and PC VR.

Not necessarily? It's definitely not aiming for the highest end hardware (ie: Not trying to compete with Apple Vision Pro), and it's sidestepping a few things that were becoming standard to focus on their stated "streaming first" use case. It'll be interesting to see how that works for them.

Specific things that stand out to me:

- Monochrome passthrough
- No hand tracking
- Eye tracking but not face tracking
- Controller layout to match gamepads, not other headsets
- Quest 3-like LCD screen

Trying so hard to envision what the "woke right" means and all I can come up with is white farm owners who are annoyed they can't find enough worker they can pay pennies to harvest their crops because ICE kidnapped their previous crew.

Oh, absolutely. He's terrible, those enabling him are terrible, and people are actively getting hurt. Nothing is good here. But in this specific case the court sounds like it's siding with the White House when it's actually speeding up aid. Doesn't fix it, but worth noting anyway.

Seems like this might be obscure legal maneuvering to get payments out faster? bsky.app/profile/matt...
My understanding is basically this. Rejecting the government’s request for the stay would have made it easier for the whole court to take the case and muck it up. This way, you grant the petitioner relief contingent on the action of the lower court, which is coming in hours. bsky.app/profile/fixt...
Referring the admin’s emergency petition to the whole court would have slowed down getting the payments out. We expect a First Circuit decision within the next day, day and a half. Monday a.m. tops. Stay tuned.

Surprised the forehead support fits? I tried to put mine in a Quest 2 case and while it fit nicely I couldn't zip it closed.

I did get the Samsung case and it's SO thick. Even the strap is uncomfortably girthy. And it's puffy, like a winter coat. Weird design choices all around.

I have never watch the show, but my goodness this line goes incredibly hard!

My premiums in CA didn't rise much, but I would bet that at least part of that is due to the fact that I'm at a large employer (Google) with plenty of negotiation leverage.

The video looks smoother than it feels in practice. I would not be surprised if there was some sort of browser-side bottleneck here. Still testing this hardware with a wider range of content.

The screen recording button is in the quick settings menu. I show it in the video.

As for the link, it does work but like Rik said the performance is pretty choppy. If it works well on other devices it would be interesting to see what the bottleneck in Chrome is.
