Do you hear yourselves

“Trump wants someone to shoot an ICE agent so he can get even crazier” is not the perspective of serious people who are connected to the reality of what’s happening here. These are the doomers you need to be cautious of.

Yesterday, while I was reading Bloodchild for book club, I happened to get a telemarketing call, and I answered it, and I just kept reading Bloodchild aloud to them until they hung up

I'm sorry for the person who was beat to death and killed. My sincere condolences to their loved ones. ICE is going to continue to kill people because the purpose of a system is what it does. It is not what it says it does or what you hope it does. Maybe USians will finally confront this truth.

Also, Cuellar being perennially on the "pro-Trump House D" list is yet another opportunity for me to bang my "he had a serious challenger and Pelosi personally campaigned on his behalf to win a razor-thin primary margin" drum for the thousandth time.
Every time Cuellar is in the news, I have to point that he represents a +13D seat, and Nancy Pelosi personally campaigned for him in a primary against a progressive challenger in '22. He won that primary by 289 votes. This is the logical endpoint of Pelosi's "protect Centrist incumbents" strategy.
Trump pardoned Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas (an repeated progressive target in Dem primaries, he narrowly survived multiple times) from bribery and conspiracy charges.
Cuellar just thanked him profusely on social; obvious questions as to whether Cuellar switches parties.

I think it is very normal for people to be skeptical of US veterans who are getting involved in electoral politics while presenting themselves as a leftist, socialist, anti imperialist etc

Three years today. The cops are already killing protesters—it's not a line we haven't crossed, it's a thing already happening—but lots of people never heard about or paid attention to this one. So it goes

A big part of the "ICE and Border Patrol guys could never make it in the military or a real police force" rhetoric is just cope that allows folks to keep pretending that cops and military don't have large numbers of violent, sociopathic toolbags themselves. They do.

Riffing on this a bit, the biggest most fundamental failing of the Democrat establishment is that they agree with Republicans on the narrative framing of issues. They agree that illegal immigration is destroying the country, that trans women are men, etc. They just think we should be nicer.
Somebody the other day arguing that [paraphrased] "it's important to agree with the right wing that certain of their concerns are valid, because we're losing the rhetorical battle" —no, if we're losing, it's because so-called friends keep validating fascist concerns. "We" who, motherfucker?

I love spending my Saturday mornings writing, but when I emerge from that sort of cloistered creative state, I feel disheveled and neurotic like Mr. Robitussin from Princess Dairies

I think the democrats who repeatedly funded the organization of her killer (he’d been in ICE for a while) and have advocated for harsher border policy, a militarized police and a lethal military abroad have more responsibility than people whose red line was genocide but your thing is neat too
