Talking Orioles baseball... like, all the time.
O's have been pretty quick out of the gate here. New coaching staff, Taveras, Ward trade, and now Helsley, all before the Winter Meetings!

Swimming in the deep end...

TBD if we're just chilling on a pineapple floatie or actually diving for the treasure at the bottom.

But at least we aren't waist-deep in the shallow end rn.

Oh look at us, we're the Blue Jays. We've got an "ace" who's been in steep decline, a gimmick screwball thrower who's pitched like 5 MLB games, a TJ returner whose stuff was a standard deviation below average, the most inconsistent game-to-game pitcher on earth, and a strict two-pitch underperformer

The hater narratives are starting to flow through my head already. "Really? You want the 80% fastball/slider guy at 35 years old? Okay good luck with that"

The Orioles are hiring former Padres manager Mike Shildt as their upper level minor league coordinator of instruction, source confirms. And Samuel Vega is the lower level coordinator.

@rochkubatko.bsky.social had both of these first

I want to understand. I really do lmao.

I think Mounty being tendered says a lot of good about where the pocketbooks sit this year though.

Whether we truly keep him and have some inefficient payroll there, or eat a few mil to facilitate trading him, it feels like we're able to play around a bit.

Thrilled that there haven't been any easy takes with trades the last two nights.

Kinda/maybe OD lineup vs LHP:

1. Westburg - 3B
2. Henderson - SS
3. Ward - LF
4. O'Neill - RF
5. Rustchman - C
6. Basallo - DH
7. Mayo - 1B
8. Cowser - CF
9. Holliday - 2B

Honestly it bangs and you can configure it a little differently and it still bangs.

It is not a coincidence that the average MLB career is ~2.7 years and arbitration starts at 3 years of service time.

Don't know of a good way to pull these numbers quickly. But, I'd estimate ~75% of MLB is either pre-arb or arb, and being paid below-market rates for their work at any given time.
My main criticism of the MLBPA is that they’re often bargaining in an effort to help the small percentage of players who reach the ability to actually negotiate their salaries. And let’s be honest, all those guys will be set for life. A good union would fight for its most vulnerable members.

Soriano's changeup has negative IVB and is really pretty nasty. Throws a pretty big slider more than anything else, followed by the change.

He's a low-slot guy so the 4S isn't anything too impressive from a movement perspective. But good separation from the sinker, and both mid-upper 90s.

Um, Chas McCormick waiver claim for some CF insurance? Average defender in center and 91wRC+ against lefties last year?
November 4, 2025 at 10:41 PM
So yeah, you give us your best international prospect. We will give you a couple months of this guy. And then you give him back. And we'll throw you a couple dollars.

Hilarious. Brilliant. Welcome back Drunkle Andrew.
