Stephen Miller is manipulating Trump on this stuff. It might be a shrewd move for Democrats to message that in order to drive a wedge between Trump and his most loyal acolyte. It could even be an achievable goal, since Miller is just a sweaty extremist ghoul and not the richest man in the world.
What's really on the line right now is that we urgently need to thwart the radical authoritarian right's long march through all our institutions. The people manipulating Trump have a grand vision. But they're overreaching.
