Earlier this year, the director of CalTrans presented this chart to members of the state Senate’s Transportation Committee, showing a dramatic rise in deaths on California's roads.

No lawmakers asked about the chart. Or what CalTrans was doing about it.

Next up is a ride up 40th Street on the 57. And, for the first time in at least five years, my transfer from AC Transit to AC Transit is free!

@therealjeanwalsh.bsky.social was instrumental in getting this free transfer policy approved by AC Transit's board years ago - thank you!

I was just on the phone for 30 MINUTES trying to get a refund for the lousy “excursion fare” I paid on BART.

DO BETTER CLIPPER.

“Between 2010 and 2022, structural fires in Berkeley injured an average of 2 people per year, while between just 2017 and 2022, traffic accidents injured or killed an average of 694 people annually.”
New post: a week of hectic back and forth with fire officials and city council over Berkeley street festivals brings out into the open a conflict in city halls across USA. Fire depts opposition to traffic calming and safety measures. Is there a solution?

The Fire Department vs. Traffic Safety Advocates
Street safety advocates are butting heads with fire officials. Swift fire response does not have to come at the cost of lives on the roadway.

New study finds that "vehicles with large driver-side blind zones are much more likely to strike crossing pedestrians while turning left."

Which vehicles have big driver-side blind zones? Those with thick A-pillars, bulky side mirrors, and tall hoods—i.e., big SUVs and trucks.
Vehicles with big blind zones spell danger to pedestrians during left turns
A large driver-side blind zone raises the risk of striking a pedestrian during a left turn by 70%, a new IIHS study shows.

I want to take transit to the Long Beach airport. It’s a hard sell when it takes literally more than twice the amount of time vs by car.

AC Transit really upped their game for the No Kings rallies. Large crowds are always a challenge for AC Transit but the communication this time around was much better. Detour information was even on Google maps! Did anyone have experiences trying to take the bus during the protest in the East Bay?
