Rambling Phillies posts with doses of other sports and movie takes

Not just a revenue sharing recipient, the defending top seed in the NL playoffs, coming of an NLCS apprarance
A revenue-sharing recipient possibly trading away an ace who costs a measly $8 million is a much bigger problem for MLB than anything the Dodgers are doing.

I do not believe history will look kindly on this voting bloc of writers for deciding that the only use of the character clause should be players explicitly suspended for PED usage

Once again chiming in to point out that a world where half the top free agents are signing short term with opt outs as soon as next offseason is not actually a world where the top player agents expect a lasting lockout or a salary cap

“Now batting for the Phillies, number 28, third baseman Alec Bohm”

As the top of the free agent market seems to be moving toward these short-term high AAV deals where guys can opt out and then cash in on their long-term contract later, the Phillies might have to change their strategy to keep up with industry trends

Boy I know they had little choice with how bad the catching position is but that deal is…problematic

This is entirely believable based on smoke and really the Phillies had no way to counter if the Mets were going to offer the upside of hitting FA again with no QO either before or after the new CBA and $126M guaranteed if it when sideways. If he wanted a short deal, they weren't winning.
The Phillies had agreed to Bo Bichette’s request for a 7-year, $200 million deal last night and believed they would sign him until the Mets swooped in with their 3-year, $126 million offer after losing out in in the Kyle Tucker sweepstakes.

i realize there's work to be done but can we all have some dignity please. the Phillies won 96 games last year

They also have zero excuse not to get a Luzardo extension done. Should be negotiating that almost immediately and make it official in the spring when they can start the money in ‘27.

gonna guess a 29 yo Bo will get more than 6/158 next winter if he has even a halfway decent season so can’t really blame him for taking that

I don’t really blame the Phillies here to be honest. Problem is they will just default to doing nothing else except bring back JT and have basically the same lineup that wasn’t good enough

‪Guessing he was probably prepared to take the Phillies long term offer or something similar until the Mets gave the friendly short term deal ‬

Who gave Marcus Hayes a HOF vote lol
Ballot #201 is from Marcus Hayes. He checks the box of ten position players and no pitchers. After an 0/173 run, Ryan Braun has his fifth Hall of Fame vote. Both Hunter (+4) and Pedroia (+18) gain ground

I know we’re all a glass case of various emotions at the moment but I think we all need to regroup and laugh together because Steve Cohen actually Tweeted That.

At this point I’m less and less concerned about the long term concerns with Bichette. Just load up to go to war with these guys. You lost the series where the margins were razor thin in all three defeats. Time to push your chips in.

Passan saying the expectation is the Phillies will be the highest bidders on Bo is giving very serious It’s Happening vibes

Very happy to see Ranger get his money, will miss him.

If the Red Sox pivoted that quickly to spending on pitching, that probably is another indicator that they think Bo is going to Philly
January 14, 2026 at 7:16 PM
Love JT but I really don’t know what he’s thinking if he got a 3 year offer and is still holding out.
January 14, 2026 at 7:06 PM
The Gelb pod certainly did not stop my growing sense that Bo might actually sign in Philly. A pretty big turnaround from a week ago when I laughed at the notion.
