It's not quite the most pressing issue at the moment, but the American people absolutely have a right to know the names of the federal officials who shot and killed a man peacefully protesting, who was on his knees, prone in the street when they shot him in the back.

Ah yes, 1950, peak America according to Tucker, before Brown v. Board, when almost no Black people could vote in the South, and when the nation's conversation revolved around the menacing epidemic of juvenile delinquency. Screenshot on right is from the Corvallis Gazette-Times, June 1950.
One of the ways we know the truth about who lives here is through the census, taken every 10 years. It's in the Constitution. And that provides us not precise numbers, but a pretty accurate general picture, most of the time, and certainly over time, of who lives here. So let's start, because it's an easy and obvious place to start, the beginning of the post-war era, peak America, 1950, the first post-War Census. And I think everyone would agree, whether they're right or wrong, that this is a period remembered as the best time in America. 1950, the United States is an industrial power, it's the leader of the West, if not really the world, and America domestically is pretty harmonious. Thriving, happy. Let's take a look at who lived in America in 1950, and let's do that by taking a closer look at the population of the top six cities, which at the time were—and this tells you a lot right here—New York was number one, Chicago was number two, Philadelphia was number three, Los Angeles number four, Detroit number five, Baltimore number six. Kind of hard to imagine, but in 1950, not that long ago, within living memory, those were the numbers. So here's what they were: the biggest city in the United States then and now is New York City. New York city in 1950 was 90% white. 7.1 million New Yorkers out of 7.9 million were white. Chicago in 1950 was 86% white, Philadelphia over 80%, Los Angeles, 94% white. 94%, that's almost an ethno-state actually at that point. Detroit, Michigan, home of Ford, GM, and Chrysler, 84% white. Baltimore, steel and shipping capital of the mid Atlantic, 76% white, that was 1950. You know people who were alive in 1950, maybe you were. Here are the numbers today: Baltimore, 27% white. Detroit, about 10% white, down from 84%. Los Angeles, again, 94%, about 37% white now. Philadelphia, 36%, Chicago, less than 30%, and New York City, again, the biggest city in the country, is now around 30% white, down from 90% in 1950. Juvenile delinquency is a national menace to our society today and will continue to be so in the future if something isn't done about it. Many people say "Why doesn't someone do something about it?" That is about as far as it goes, just talk and no action. Many cures have been tried, some have succeeded but many more have failed. Youth Centers are the most popular "cure." Some of the big centers include swimming pools, tennis courts, dancing floors, gym for boys, snack bar, etc. Youth centers with all of these facilities are very successful in many cases. Gyms and work shops for boys have solved the problem in many large cities. The purposes of these centers is to provide wholesome, healthful, recreation and opportunities for vocational training either for fun or for a job. Theig objective is to keep them busy and so interested in constructive activities that they won't have time or won't want to take part in those activities that lead to juvenile delinquency. How-ever, such opportunities are not available to the many youth who need them. I believe that the solution to juvenile delinqueney is in the home. Of cours this brings up the question of delinquent parents and parent education. When parent education is mentioned people say, "it is fine but just the "good" parents will come and not those who need it." Unfortunately this is true. Since parents do not always provide proper training and good environment for their children there must be an alternative. This alternative has been found in many other community agencies. If the admin's strategic goal was to break public resistance to immigration enforcement activities, it was a tactical mistake to go to the Twin Cities.
It is the misfortune of Minnesota’s ICE contingent to have invaded the state with the second-highest levels of social trust, trailing only Utah. Many activist networks were formed in 2020; we are seeing, Petrus says, Minnesotans call upon the “muscle memory” of the George Floyd protests. In mid-January, a neighborhood organization for a part of town called Whittier put out a call for a meeting to organize a “Neighborhood ICE response”; more than 800 people showed up at the local elementary school and formed a tidy line extending well beyond the door. (“Why a line?” I ask someone later. “Because we are in Minnesota,” he says.) In the cafeteria, in their big coats, adults struggled to get their legs through benches attached to long lunch tables. Because there were too many Minnesotans to fit in a single room, officials and parents and teachers went room to room giving the same speeches about how to help neighbors in hiding. They then gridded out the rooms, dividing the neighborhood into smaller subdivisions. Close neighbors met one another (“Oh, you live on the other side of the museum”) and formed hyperlocal Signal groups. At the first sighting of an agent, someone could ping the group and draw them outside. Their favored tactic was noise. They would make it impossible for ICE to conduct raids in secret.

The Virginia legislature today passed four constitutional amendments, all by day 3 of 2026 session:

—protect abortion rights
—repeal the same-sex marriage ban
—allow mid-decade redistricting
—greatly expand voting rights restoration.

These will all go to 2026 referendums.

The current polling is only like 50/50 on eliminating ICE but every politician needs to ask themselves "Will Trump show more tact and thoughtfulness with how he uses ICE over the next year or will he double down on everything driving ICE's growing unpopularity?"
I think the answer is clear.

Congress can stop ICE. Congress can block the use of force in Greenland. In other words, in this crisis, Congress can act to support civil liberties at home and free nations abroad. To fail to act would be to be complicit in a dreadful outcome.
