Elon buying X and firing everyone pretty much turned tech into a shitty place to work almost overnight.
OpenAI "proved" that LLMs are a viable product and X "proved" that you can fire large numbers of employees

one of my favorite bits of set design is "the devils", where it's all white porcelain and tile to echo a public toilet; also one of the first things i thought of when i saw that big drain hole in the lab of "frankenstein"

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?
