Oh, cool, looks like I've been starter packed by a few folks. New followers: I'm based in Boston, MA, USA. When the world isn't actively collapsing (or, rather, when I take time off from paying attention to the collapse), I'm a Master Brewer and a cooking/restaurant nerd.
You people let Bill Kristol bait you into pie discourse? Weak.

Things Jews should worry about:
1) where can I get whitefish salad?
2) nazis in the government
3) will we permanently alienate young Jews by being patronizing turds and dismissing their concerns?
4) they have the chutzpah to call this a bagel?

My mom used to make a broccoli "souffle" that had no leavening of any kind, just frozen broccoli boiled and blended with half and half and margarine and baked.
Soo…

What Thanksgiving dish or side dish did* your parents make that you have since cancelled or do not make now that it’s your turn?

*Assumption is some grandparents/parents have since passed away so no one is asking for it or objecting to its absence

Again trying tp make myself share things I find interesting and/or enjoy that don't infuriate me.

At least once a day, Doug posts something I want to watch a miniseries about. (@ernie.tedium.co is another).
* Two brothers in NYC both claimed to have invented the six-foot-long party sub. Their shops were in adjacent storefronts and they tried to sabotage each other in various ways for decades. They didn't speak to each other directly for many years, but they did take their feud to court.

I figure Ken Burns has one, maybe two big documentary series in him before he fully retires. What do you think they should be? My votes include Football, Hip-Hop, World War 1, Reconstruction (though Skip Gates did this one well), Iraq/Afghanistan, 19th Century Expansionism.

I loved this.
One of my favorite things is getting to tell friends who are new to NYC that the subway "stand clear of the closing doors please" voice is a trans woman named Bernie Wagenblast and she's amazing.

Has anyone seen where this comes from? I'm curious if it was over email or live. Google doesn't work anymore. Can we all please attach sources to our screenshots? I know this particular thing doesn't matter, but we need to collectively get better about sharing verifiable shit
haven’t seen ROS or Solo but this seems like a pretty ball-knowing list from Pritzker, particularly if he volunteered the name “Star Wars” rather than “A New Hope”

I've never had rolls at Thanksgiving (I have made stuffing flavored garlic knots, though), but I'm still kicking out the green bean casserole.
with charity and goodwill, i must here part ways with rolls.

The original NYT post is bait, but what funny bait to pick. I was on a field trip to see the shuttle lift off when Kurt died so the entire moment is burned into my memory. I remember my classmate Liz was wearing a Beatles t-shirt while bawling over the news
As someone who is this guy's age I can tell you 100% that if you were into Pixies, Nirvana, 120 Minutes stuff, etc. but didn't like the Beatles you had to have worked hard to contort yourself into that special little box. Your enemy, if you absolutely needed one, was hair metal. GTFO here with this.

When I was a little kid, I thought the "wicked witch of the west" just lived in the really far west.
The first known use of 'wicked' was in the 13th century.
We hope everyone flies free this weekend.

BTW, the name Elphaba is a reference to "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" author L. Frank Baum.

Half my Massachusetts friends who regularly post about Trump's corruption and failure to follow laws don't seem to offer a fraction of the concern for our own state, and that's how the state government gets away with all of its nonsense.

A lot of people who should know better are posting variations of this. It's entirely wrong.

None of this trains LLMs. It does shit like sort your email into tabs and puts events on your Google Calendar.
Google defaulting all Gmail users to a setting that enables Google to harvest all your emails into chatbot training is straight-up evil and invasive.

I stopped reading the Nuzzis and Taibbis of the world before most and never read the mattys or Douthats, but I am not immune to bait; I have read and will continue to read (but not pay for) the Lizza* slop.

What most people don't know anymore is this was actually there for decades as a holy space when the Pru was built and giving them this space was a condition of development.

No idea how the church got there, though.
I’m at the prayer chapel. I’m at the Dunkin Donuts. I’m at the combination prayer chapel and Dunkin Donuts. #aarsbl25

I can't tell you how much it pains me as a Masshole to see both Auchincloss and Moulton saying correct things well.
CNN: In the last couple of weeks or so, she's become kind of an ally on some issues. What do you make of this?

Auchincloss: No, John, she hasn't.
