I also think, like. This was probably a guy that a lot of people were keeping very loose tabs on and possibly paying and a lot of the weirdness afterwards was people trying to cover their asses that they did not know about his side project

I mean, he defected to the USSR! He lived there for two years! I think that as soon as the name came out there was like. An INSANELY serious call with Moscow where they had to basically be like, "this was NOT our fault. We BARELY knew the guy."
