Today I saw ICE gas little white kids in the streets of Portland with chemical weapons. Imagine what they're doing to brown and black kids in the detention camps

Usually dictators are more subtle about looting the treasury, because gross corruption is often a part of what gets them overthrown.
Trump on his multiple suits against the federal government: "I'm supposed to work out a settlement with myself ... We could make it a substantial amount, nobody would care, because it's gonna go to numerous, very good charities."

we said all along that they wanted Gawker dead not because we embarrassed a pro wrestler but because the Epstein story is one Gawker was covering a decade before most other people caught up & was just one of many stories exposing powerful people and their misdeeds
Among the batch of newly released emails from Jeffrey Epstein: Epstein telling Peter Thiel he would “gladly share…expenses for the Gawker suit.”

This was sent the day after @rmac.bsky.social and @mattdrange.bsky.social reported in Forbes that Thiel was behind the lawsuit that would bankrupt Gawker

I found the first investigative file from the first complainant against Epstein in 2005.

There are descriptions from the officer, over several interviews of the girl, of her pulling her knees up on the chair, drawing doodles, & the officer high-fiving her to keep her calm as she speaks of horror.

And from there it's just victim after victim after victim after victim. Astonishing number of victim interviews. Same MO every time.

The scale of the abuse-- I don't even know what words to use to describe it.

Lawyers can't reach clients in ICE detention. I've heard it anecdotally, but scale of issue is horrifying.

Epstein came up with pizzagate
Why would Epstein know Trump's election prospects on Oct. 15? Maybe Russia. That month Epstein arranged for Trump advisors Peter Thiel & Tom Barrack to meet Russian Vitali Churkin. Russia fed hacked emails to WikiLeaks. Then Thiel's folks spun up Pizzagate: a conspiracy about a pedophile ring. 4/

I would go farther and say that the system not just allows, but incentivizes, them to do it. We have built a system in which greed, selfishness, abuse, domination, and cruelty are the precise qualities that make it easiest to advance. And, we could build a different one!
Never forget that it's not a coincidence when so many powerful people are abusers, they're abusers because no one whose soul is still intact acquires that much power, because it takes exploitation to do so. The problem is not those individuals, it's the system that allows them to do it

Democracies are so strong that they allow people to criticize democracy. In fact, the ability to do so is an essential quality of democracy. Authoritarians are so weak they don't allow people to criticize authoritarians. Silencing dissent is an essential quality of authoritarian regimes.
