Wait, they had a downfall?

The broccoli-style is straight poop from a butt. It's like a Jaromir Jagr-mullet.

There's a whole lot of people down there with nothing to lose and a massive, 80-year old beef.

Standing up HITRON was seen as HUGE escalation within the Coast Guard that could upset that equilibrium. It didn't, because it was clear that we kept the whole "we're just doing our jobs (CG and cartels)" covenant. Like the ol' cops-mafia bit. So long as you weren't mixed up with them...

All of the surrounding countries have had insurgencies fighting US-backed dictators/governments since the Eisenhower-doctrine. It's going to be a third-thing and not a good one.

The Coast Guard was able to operate down there because it was implicit no one was getting killed.

If having Negative-Game was a picture.

The place here never picks up the phone because they're understaffed. I have to go in there twice. For a $40 barracks cut.

No more.

It's Syracuse, so it wasn't an uncommon amount.

That said, I don't know why people get stuck in one church, instead of shopping around. Some are better than others at meeting different spiritual needs.

If you believe in such things, it gets you into heaven. There's also a sense of community and for some, it's the only place that they actually socialize with other human beings. It's not for me, but I'm not going to knock it. That's the sole reason why some people go to AA.

I love it when O4s come back to the field from grad-school.

Any time the Coast Guard got an unexpected chunk of money, they spent it on wacky-shit/programs like this, that didn't have a current-need. It would get sent to a unit to "find" a need; although that almost never panned out.

The benefits of a tether are anti-jamming and for entering structures (which doesn't need a miles-long tether). I suspect this is a case of "hey, that looks cool!" rather than any thought-out, operational need.
November 23, 2025 at 3:39 PM
Having any sort of tether is an extremely stupid idea.

Most everyone looked miserable and while I know the answer to this question, I still have to ask: If you don't enjoy being there, why go? Why not find somewhere else to spend your Sunday mornings?
