I keep harping the last handful of years that we need to support the things that we love or they will disappear. What Katie has built at @bkswpicspdx.bsky.social is what you hope every comic store in the world could be. Please donate to keep it going.

My old friend Dalton, brilliant illustrator, kindest friend, has died. It’s so sad, I’m so sad, as are so many people. The first thing anyone says, whether they knew him 30 years ago or today, is how kind he was — what an amazing legacy. Lots of love to his family and all his loved ones 💔

Please track your ballot, Seattle friends! Only if you voted for Katie tho ;) info.kingcounty.gov/kcelections/...
County Elections reports more than 1,700 challenged Seattle ballots as of Tuesday morning — 274 in District 3. Most are either unsigned or the signature requires verification because it does not match www.capitolhillseattle.com/2025/11/elec...

Such sad news and a terrible loss, both of the kindest friend and an incredible talent. 💔 @daltondraws.bsky.social
Just heard the terrible news about the passing of a much-beloved local artist, Dalton Webb, after a host of overlapping medical issues. He was a genuinely lovely guy and a tremendous illustrator. His first childrens book was published in September.

There are a WHOLE bunch of labels that were news to me that were suppressing things in my feed. “Rude” is the one I turned off but it’s good to know what else we have been opted in to. Is it too much to ask for some transparency? Perhaps. Perhaps.
Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

I was a full time artist for 2 years with help from a breadwinner partner. But the customer service, emotional drain, nonstop hustle, no security, low pay (and lack of clients when I raised my prices to living wage)…turns out I prefer to work soul sucking office jobs for money and do art for myself.
Many full time creatives have “invisible safety nets” like bread-winning partners, trust funds, external support, etc. No shame on anyone, but it creates a false vision of success. The cost of going to cons alone on top of hoping to eat as a freelancer are untenable, IMO.
When people hear that I'm returning to part time work they often ask "are things not going well with your art?"

The problem really is things are going well, but the world is so unstable that I long for some consistency and income that I don't have to pay quarterly taxes on

Also if you can afford to please donate to a food bank
Relatedly, this is your reminder that if a food pantry would help you, you should definitely go to one.

Food pantries, like libraries, keep numbers of how many people they help. Numbers help them get funding. You are not taking from anyone; you are helping the food pantry exist.
SNAP recipients told to buy shelf-stable food or go to food banks as funding deadline looms.

There might be claw-backs of any saved funds on Nov 1.

Voting ASAP! The last 2 times we voted by mail a few days before Election Day, our ballots were not received in time. Not taking chances this time. I saw a neighboring county say mailing even 1 week ahead was not enough time for USPS these days.
