My son put it best when he was a young kid: "Cats are great because you get happy every time you encounter them. You turn a corner, and there's a cat there, and it's like there's a cat, and that's great."

I always think about it whenever I turn a corner and encounter a cat.

Really happy to have stumbled on Andrew Jervis' new show on Worldwide FM. No disrespect to current Bandcamp DJ's.. it just isn't the same. www.worldwidefm.net/episode/the-...

I had kept NYT email newsletters active for breaking news, but since they're not even doing that anymore, I just replaced it with Al Jazeera: www.aljazeera.com/newsletters

Desk Shelf V2 complete. Happy the Macbook and thunderbolt dock have a home, though the laptop sticks out the back a bit. Total cost around $80 for the wood (just the legs), stain, and supplies.

Working on another Desk Shelf, this time for my wife. Trying to match the stain of the red oak legs with the veneer of the repurposed floating shelf and actually got pretty close on the first attempt (stain prep + light coat of “gunstock”stain).

Spending a huge portion of my evening installing Windows 11 (which had been banished from our household) just so I can install the MSI app just so I can update my MSI OLED's firmware because it's gone insane and tries to run a pixel refresh process every 10 minutes.

Just got iMessage (and text!) working on Linux/Fedora with BlueBubbles, using a (seemingly indestructible) 2013 Macbook Pro on a shelf in the basement as the server. I attempted this about a year ago and gave up; the setup process now is trivial.

The real question is not "Why is Bluesky so left-coded," the real question is "Why can't the right exist in a social media environment without algorithmic assistance, where people can ignore them"

I know it's passé to dunk on Outlook search, but my god it's so bad. Search for Firstname Lastname = no results. Search for exact email address ([email protected]) = 1 result in Sent. I've started having to meticulously archive emails in folders like it's 1999.

Legacy corporate new & media continues its slide into irrelevance.
Teen Vogue has shown that you can do courageous, accountability political journalism *and* get huge engagement while doing so. And they've just decided to throw that all away. This is an unbelievably grim day for journalism.

I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

Does anyone know why Microsoft's spellcheck in Outlook has started sucking so badly? This is mostly a rhetorical question, I think I know the answer.

I'm not a fan of added tech/complexity in newer appliances but I just learned our dryer has a flow sensor to alert me of a (dangerously) blocked dryer vent. Nifty! Also - reminder to clean your dryer vent.

I failed multiple dexterity checks trying to bend & glue the photoetch shuttlebay part for my 1/537 #Reliant Miranda Class ship build, so I gave up and modeled a much more accurate part. I think I can make little clear inserts for the light strips as well. #Miniatures
