I am gathering my supplies to mend a pair of pants during a community meeting this evening and let me count the ways that this is a tiny disruption to patterns that would have you believe they are the natural, unstoppable order of things....

Reality: China has far more windfarms than any other country on Earth

Thank you @ peterbrannen.bsky.social.

As a former Earth Science teacher and forever fan of paleontology and geomorphology, your work grounds me. Just finished The Story of CO2 Is the Story of Everything (2025) and want to re-read The Ends of the World (2017). 💚🌍!

Nothing is still. Not you with your in-breath and out-breath and the slow exchange of your bones with the minerals of the soil. And definitely not the spinning earth and her swirling atmosphere.
Happy new year! My all sky camera imaged the sky every 15 seconds and this picture shows what happened in the sky in 2025. It shows the length of the night and day with the hourglass shape, the monthly lunar cycle with the diagonal bands, the elevation of the Sun at local noon, and lots of clouds.

Among Western democracies, the US is basically in a league of its own. No other comparable democracy has climate denial so deeply embedded in a major political party, its media ecosystem, and parts of government.

It remains the largest contributor to the 425.78 ppm CO2 currently in the atmosphere.

Great 🧵!
So many ways to tame the "overwhelm."
Reduce, reuse (create from cast-offs), compost to heal/enrich soil, grow fresh produce to nurture your soul and share with others, monitor consumption, value renewable energy and community, connect with and learn from all, etc. etc.
Consider: the overwhelm you feel is the signature product of extractive systems that require exponential growth to continue.

I can't think of anything scarier than this.

The greenhouse gases we have added to the atmosphere now force over a billion Hiroshima bombs worth of heat into the Earth system every year.

Our current Healthcare SYSTEM...

An Analogy:

Patients are pinballs in a pinball MACHINE played by a high scoring teenage pinball wizard of the 1970s.

At least that is how it feels to me as a new patient.

What we must all remember from the Gaza genocide is that the international system is rotten to its core and needs to be completely replaced.

We cannot accept a system where Western governments and leaders can commit genocide and war crimes with total impunity.

Growing and preserving food is a lot of work, and access to land and time to do so isn't (yet) distributed fairly. But in the pockets where it is possible it's an act of connection, of divestment, of re-investment, and sometimes, healing.
Sometimes a little order is therapeutic. 4 months after we moved the pantry is getting organized

I think one challenge in living among so much uncertainty and tragedy is the way capitalism has taught us that our quiet, domestic moments don’t count for anything. (1/6)
