Grim news out of Seattle: we passed an ordinance raising the pay of delivery drivers, but the result has been fewer delivery orders, leaving many of them worse off.

It may just be that "instant delivery of your food" is not a practical business & only exploitation can make it "work."
Seattle's gig worker law was supposed to boost pay. It did at first, until orders dropped
It’s been two years since Seattle’s gig worker minimum wage took effect. It was intended to boost labor standards for app-based drivers who deliver food for companies like DoorDash or Uber Eats. How h...

Look at all these beautiful people (Norm and his Nation)
A huge Norm Nation update! Yesterday, so many reached out to help a family in hiding escape eviction. Today, I paid $3,700 for 3 months’ rent (2 months of back rent since they can’t leave the house and also March’s rent, because it’s already mid-February). Thank you so much! You are saving lives.

Please help with this, they don't even need to be good examples, feel free to send us the bad ones too! This is gonna take *years* but the more examples we have now the sooner we can start getting to the really detailed discussions.
Browser developers are working on custom form controls ( `appearance:base`), the next giant task is looming: customisable input type=date/datetime/color pickers.

These are huge and have wildly varied UI. Send me your examples, I'd love to see them and build up a body of these pickers.

If you think Trump's DOJ is only spying on Democratic lawmakers who searched the Epstein files, you are kidding yourself. They obviously have the ability to spy on anyone who goes to the DOJ website. If you searched the files, Trump's DOJ knows. This is huge invasion of privacy #Spygate

The bravery Marimar Martinez has shown in fighting the very federal government that tried to execute her to make it possible for all of us to see these messages is “name an elementary school after you” level of hero status.
Hours after Border Patrol agent Charles Exum shot Marimar Martinez five times, Gregory Bovino emailed him to ask he continue working past retirement:

"In light of your excellent service in Chicago, you have much yet left to do!!" he wrote.

CNN: "Another photograph - these are notes AG Bondi brought to the hearing today. This shows a list of Rep. Jayapal's search history. Lawmakers are allowed to go to a DOJ facility to search unredacted files. We learned from this photo that the searches are apparently being tracked & read by the DOJ"

Every photo from Minneapolis looks like this. Cops decked out with guns and full tac gear facing off against people in bathrobes, parkas, and sweatpants armed only with whistles and cell phones.

Yet every verified MAGA chode on X dutifully calls it a riot or violent insurrection.

New playbook for Congressional hearings: take a page from @crockett.house.gov. Don’t ask trump administration officials any questions. Just make points for 5 minutes. Republicans will use up all their time letting them answer. Then just yell clapbacks from time to time.

This is true, and even if we get rid of Trump, we still have to reckon with the fact that a substantial proportion of US economic and political elites were *eager* to jump on the fascism train. They will still be the same people when Trump is gone.
The political dynamics of 2025 were shaped by Democrats and Republicans over-reading Trump's victory in the same way. That turns out to be a problem for a LOT of rich and powerful people who made a very large bet on the theory that MAGA had won the culture war. www.offmessage.net/p/trump-has-...

ICE is currently holding around 80,000 detainees. Nazi Germany didn't reach this number in its formal camp system until 1942, nine years after seizing power and three years into the war.

The point of the AI project is to provoke despair in creative people. They haven’t produced profits or anything anyone wants, just a steady stream of articles about how us artistic types can’t do the thing we’re already doing, making art. Jokes on them, we’re even better at despair than they are.
