There’s more of this in America than anybody’s comfortable admitting, and it’s been around since the beginning. There’s a unique and quintessentially American brand of sociopathy that’s in the soil, and up until now it’s largely been content sporing out invisibly in the wind.

Twitter isn’t going away. It’s a monetized simulacrum of reality that makes a lot of genuinely awful people feel validated for being awful. There will always be massive demand for that.
