For some reason, this reminds me of my biggest football name pet peeve, which is generational suffixes on uniforms. RG3 is the third Robert in the Griffin family, so his uniform should have said "Griffin". He is not Robert of the "Griffin III" family.

As a little post-holiday, pre-New-Year treat, I released the game project I've been working on this year. Railroad Ranger started out as a learning project and turned into an affectionate tribute to the educational games of the 1980s that inspired it. Enjoy!

Better late than never, we got around to icing our annual (double) batch of ornament cookies in the very nick of time. Grandma and grandpa joined us this year, which made it an extra special treat. And now to settle my brain for a long winter's nap. After the Chinese take-out.

It's far from the most important thing you could be reading today, but I did post my notes on this year's Advent of Code. Experts in branch and bound optimizations are especially encouraged to let me know where I went wrong on Day 10.

I would like to thank the little earthquake that shifted my bathroom door frame so it closes again, fixing an issue caused by a previous little earthquake that warped the bathroom door frame so it wouldn’t close. Living the California dream out here!

My advice to anyone annoyed by the 6-7 meme would be to continue complaining about it. You are definitely not making a laughingstock of yourself and prolonging its cultural currency 🤡

A little while ago, @etymology.substack.com.web.brid.gy wrote a good piece comparing concerns over social media with earlier generations' concerns over television. I thought some more about ways these media function differently and how those differences put their users at different risks.
Comparing the Risks of Social Media and Mass Media
A post by Adam Aleksic is a good reminder than concerns over the harms caused by media are not new. Many modern concerns about social media echo what previous generations worried about television. I n...

Rewatched They Live (1988) last night, which prompted me to look up the amazing Keith David on IMDB. As of today, he has over 400 acting credits, which does not include over 150 additional projects where he's credited as himself. Already a legend, and still working!

The first result when I looked up a pork marinade recipe was like "the secret ingredient in this marinade is soy sauce, but don't worry, it won't taste too Asian-y" and that really made my skin crawl.

The pork chops were good, though.

Twitter was never a very good platform for debate or persuasion even before it became a Nazi roachpit. Brief text snippets are terrible for conveying nuance and the public platform means it's hard to find common ground. It's always been a watercooler for people you generally agree with.
"I'm on Twitter because I want to persuade people instead of hanging out where everyone agrees with me and shirking my persuading duty" is the core argument of this piece. And it's not a good one. 1/
