I joked in my year end post about being a "gamer aesthete" because I thought the sprite work and design of early Kirby games pleased me on a primal aesthetic level, but good UX and design is a pleasure to interact with and is its own reward! It's a valid way to love a game!
one of the best pieces of video game criticism i stumbled across was in the middle of a fire emblem video and the youtuber didnt realise how foundational a take this was because it seems obvious but it was: the reward when levelling up is not primarily stats and utility, but shiny flashing lights

Something I’ve learned from getting monthly magazines from @gamehistoryorg.bsky.social is that there really isn’t anything new under the sun, including home VR being “more accessible to home players” and pricing discourse.

Me.
Starting a new social media platform that does Facebook-style "your display name must be your full legal name and if we ever find out it's not we'll nuke you from orbit" shit, but also enforces unique display names like Tumblr does. Fuck the second and subsequent Steves – global one Steve limit.

If you’re into incredibly simple blogging from a great small team of devs (I think it’s just two people now??) I cannot recommend pika.page enough.

They have a guestbook where you can leave doodles on other blogs! I write occasionally at stevetown.blog

Cuomo gave a fairly graceless concession speech, and Mamdani rips his skin off:

"My friends, we have toppled a political dynasty. I wish Andrew Cuomo the best in private life. But let tonight be the last time I mention his name."

Anxiously waiting for my issue this week, but this is the coolest one I’ve seen so far.
My latest random retro game magazine from @gamehistoryorg.bsky.social is sooo good! The lid sticker is still in there.

Make sure your RPG battle transitions, scene composition, and attack animations are at least as cool as this Taiwanese DOS RPG from 1995
