Exploring the world through craft beer, running, and sports.
I am a bit ashamed that I forgot how fun/entertaining it is to watch TV when you're in a foreign country. Tonight, I'm watching #LaIslaDeLasTentaciones15 ("Temptation Island") while in Barcelona, Spain. I barely understand what's being said, but the drama is super intriguing. #StevenExploresSpain

Exploring Toledo, Spain, yesterday was a wonderful treat. I walked way more than I expected, even knowing that I'd walk a lot. The contratto between past and present was very intriguing to see. #StevenExploresSpain

I wish I had known about Madrid's Black history, but there's always a future visit when I can delve deeper into this subject. #StevenExploresSpain

Walking tours shed light on Madrid's hidden Black history
In Madrid, specialised tour guides are leading visitors past the customary landmarks to focus on an African heritage that barely appears in Spanish textbooks and collective memory, joining a trend see...

I'm about to board my flight to Madrid, and in one week I'll run the Valencia Marathon for the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association (GLASA).

If you want to make a difference in the world, now it's a great time to donate. #StevenRuns #ItsMyTimeToRun

For the fourth consecutive year, I am running a marathon in support of the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association (GLASA). From the moment I signed on to run the 2022 Chicago Marathon for this organi...

And now, we've got 2 of 3 hotels booked. Hopefully, we finalize the last hotel tomorrow. 🤞
Nothing beats booking train travel in a foreign country for your trip that starts in 11 days!

Tomorrow's task: book hotels.

It's not really a brag, but a pleasantly surprising observation. I'm 2 weeks out from my goal race, and I can see my speed on easy runs getting faster without any increase in effort. I'm hopeful it means that race day will go well. #RunChat
Got a running brag! Let's hear it! #RunChat
November 24, 2025 at 2:02 AM
A6: I don't have any specific myths, but I've heard multiple one-stop shop cures that are rarely accurate. #RunChat
#RunChat Q6: What’s the biggest injury-related myth you’ve heard in the running community?
November 24, 2025 at 1:52 AM
A5: I've been lucky to avoid injuries, but I love doing yoga to help with any issues. #RunChat
#RunChat Q5: What’s a cross-training activity you like to do when you’re sidelined with an injury?
November 24, 2025 at 1:43 AM
A4: IMO, there's no one simple answer. Shoes are so individualistic. #RunChat
#RunChat Q4: What's a shoe (or shoe change) that you feel helped reduce or prevent an injury for you?
November 24, 2025 at 1:41 AM
A3: I've been fortunate with avoiding injuries, so far. I've had some achy knees, but I try to consistently do some yoga to help strengthen my IT bands. I know doing strength work has helped, too. #RunChat
#RunChat Q3: What’s an effective rehab exercise or stretch that you’ve used for a running injury?
November 24, 2025 at 1:40 AM
A2: In my case, I should've heeded warnings from others and been more cautious about where I was running in town due to stray days. #RunChat
#RunChat Q2: What’s one early-warning sign of an injury that you wish you hadn’t ignored?
November 24, 2025 at 1:36 AM
Hey, I'm Steven and chiming in from Lubbock, TX.

A1: I'm still recovering from banging up my shins about 6 weeks ago. The cuts seem to have healed, but my left shin is still a bit swollen. #RunChat
Hey #RunChat friends! This week we're going to talk about injuries.

Q1: What running injury took you the longest to recover from? What finally helped you turn the corner?

Today, due to @iberia-lae.bsky.social changing my flight home, I had to get my connection rescheduled. Thankfully that is done!

Maybe it's just my perception, but it seems like there are a LOT of #NPB players being posted this offseason. I may be wrong about the raw numbers, but it also seems like it's a bumper crop of legitimate stars who should be successful in #MLB.

Okamoto, Takahashi join NPB stars posted for MLB
Infielder Kazuma Okamoto and pitcher Kona Takahashi are entering MLB's posting system and will be available to sign as free agents from Friday through Jan. 4.

Today, I logged my last BIG run before my goal race, the Valencia Marathon. I ran 21 miles and while it was certainly boring doing three 7-mile loops, I am pleased with my result. #RunChat
Close off #RunChat with a brag! Let's see those recent race medals and hear about positive things happening in your running world!
November 17, 2025 at 2:06 AM
A6: I'm a mix of things, but typically my look says: "I love @milb.com." I'm typically wearing some team's dri-fit shirt during my runs. #RunChat
#RunChat Q6: What’s your signature running look: fashion icon, laundry-day chaos, or “don’t ask”?
November 17, 2025 at 1:41 AM
A5: So far, I've only had one "I'm never doing this race again" moment, which was the Garmin Olathe HM. And, I've yet to do it again. It was about pre-race shuttle service and being stuck waiting for the bus to make a turn, so we could get dropped off. The race itself was fine. #RunChat
#RunChat Q5: How many “I’m never doing this race again” moments have you had? How many times did you actually sign up again?
November 17, 2025 at 1:38 AM
A4: I'm not sure that I've said anything to myself that's particularly ridiculous. I've absolutely DONE some ridiculous things like dancing to "Gangnam Style" in Chicago or singing out loud to Tina Turner's "The Best" in London. #RunChat
#RunChat Q4: What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve told yourself mid-run just to keep going?
November 17, 2025 at 1:36 AM
A3: There's a few that I'd run every year if money wasn't a concern. I'd absolutely do the Tokyo Marathon every year, but that's not feasible. The race that I've realistically committed to running a lot (maybe not quite yet annually) is the Chicago Marathon. #RunChat
#RunChat Q3: What’s a race you’d run every single year if you could?
November 17, 2025 at 1:35 AM
A2: I invested in a run coach because I'm striving to get faster, and I wanted the accountability of having someone "make" me do strength work. I don't do any fancy strength work, but seeing it twice a week makes me commit to it. #RunChat
#RunChat Q2: What’s one small change you've made in your running that delivered positive/big results?
November 17, 2025 at 1:34 AM
I'm chiming in a bit late. I'm Steven in Lubbock, TX. The most "runner" thing is casually drop "I'm 'only' running 6 (or 8 or whatever) miles tomorrow" like it's not a physical strain to run that distance. #RunChat
It's time for a #RunChat! Tell us: What’s the most "runner" thing you’ve ever done that non-runners wouldn’t understand?

Welp, MLS is moving to a spring-fall calendar. I don't think it's a bad idea, but it's a terrible decision without soliciting ANY fan feedback. I want soccer to continue growing in the U.S., but this has the chance to alienate the league's fanbase.

MLS switching schedule to align with world soccer
The MLS Board of Governors voted Thursday to align with the international soccer calendar by shifting the regular season to a fall through spring campaign beginning in 2027.

Again, not visible from my home in central Lubbock. I'm sure things are more visible farther away from all the light pollution.
Seeing photos and videos from all the people fortunate enough to see the #AuroraBorealis tonight is making me jealous. I wonder what's visible from my former home in Nebraska.
