The fire in Hong Kong is horrible and devastating. One thing I observe, in comparison to the Grenfell fire here, is that within three days, authorities have arrested 11 people, directors and top brass. I don't believe anyone, much less top brass, from Grenfell have faced charges, eight years later.

Recently I saw a post for a room to rent, $2K a month. A room, not an apartment or even a studio. Even in bad neighborhoods, they are $3K. That’s $24-36K a month. Yeah, the official poverty rate is way too low and the valley does exist. Why do you think ppl feel like things are bad? BMI time?

This has been going on for a long time. Why? Personally and as a former teacher, it was because schools presented it not as an option, but as a must and made it seem like if one didn’t go, they were failures. I just do my best to educate and give them the choice.

Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.
The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.
