Not only was Kavanaugh laughably wrong, he also doesn't know basic immigration law. Individuals with pending asylum claims are lawfully in the United States, but the government may, at their discretion, detain them during the process. With this regime, they are almost never free to go.

My main observation from the last few hours of monitoring US social media is that Democrats are universally denouncing political violence and calling for calm while MAGA are escalating language and openly lusting for retribution against broad categories of people they identity as their enemies.

When you or I break the law, we get fined and/or jailed and face civil liability. When the fed government breaks the law, they just shrug their shoulders. These double standards are deeply corrupt/fascist and contribute greatly to lack of trust. Time to rewrite the constitution. End civil immunity.
