Shutting down the government is a big deal. People have been hurt in big ways as a result of the decision. To have that suffering be for nothing—to re-open the government without actually having protected people’s health insurance and economic well-being—is unconscionable.

So. What’s made baseball steadying to my mental health this year is:

1. Something I can pay attention to where there is joy and something good regularly happens.

2. Low stakes as far as the wider world.

3. Low stakes day-to-day because there are 162 games in the regular season.

Just gonna watch this on loop for the rest of the day.
Every time I log on Bluesky someone or something is trying to make me angry. Meanwhile, on Instagram, there's a video of a dog named Kenny asking for cuddles using a button. Do better.

This chart showing 80% of Americans think it’d be great if more of us worked in factories, while just 20% would actually work in a factory, applies to much of the fake populist promise

They celebrate farmers but don’t want to farm, miners but don’t want to mine, soldiers but don’t want to fight etc

If you have trouble understanding why people get invested in sports teams — which I understand! — please know that this week took up basically every molecule of energy I had, and *that does not count* the news. If my baseball team had lost, I would have felt neutral, but they won, and I feel GREAT.

Not satisfied with purchasing a Presidential Election to become co-President, Sissy SpaceX now wants to buy himself a Supreme Court judge in Wisconsin.

You can end his shopping spree, Wisconsinites! 🚫 💰

Since I have defended and supported the WaPo in the months since the election and the infamous pulled endorsement, I feel obliged to say: this is very, very bad. A dear friend at a Post vet says it's the worst thing to happen to the Post in its long history, and I can't argue.

In 2021, after Giannis injured his knee and the Bucks were tied 2-2 in the ECFs, Bucks fans had given up hope.

Then, Khris Middleton happened. He put the franchise on his back and carried them to the NBA Finals.

Game 5: 26pts, 13reb, 8ast,
Game 6: 32pts (27 in the 2nd half)

Forever grateful.
