Before we're fully immersed in year-end list season I should put this playlist out into the wild. 1985 favourites, cult classics & big hits. 290 40yr-old bangers. Auto-sorted by popularity.

The harmonica solo on Eurythmics' There Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart) is so good it made me google who it was playing as it is 100% the best thing about that (very decent) song. Delighted to discover that it's Stevie Wonder - apparently 'famously so', but it's news to me.

My hot Weezer take is that 2021's OK Human is every bit as brutally honest, open and for-all-its-flaws-relatable as Pinkerton, except Rivers is no longer an angst-ridden 20-something rockstar, but now a slightly bored middle-aged rich dude stuck in his nice house with his family during a pandemic.

Just listening to Deserter's Songs. Mildly intrigued to discover both Levon Helm and Garth Hudson from The Band make cameos on two different songs. Helm drums on album highlight, Opus 40. That's it. Your obscure music trivia for today. You're welcome.

Just heard this for the first time. The 1986 B-side that forms the basis of Buffalo Stance. The A-side is Pete Waterman produced pop with a Naomi Campbell cameo in the video. 'The Wild Bunch', responsible for this remix, go on to form Massive Attack.

My occasional series of overly long playlists focussed on a single year has reached 1975. It's lengthy, but non-completist (eg. no BoRhap). If I wasn't enjoying it in 2025 it didn't make the cut. Tried not to go too hard on the dad-energy, but it's 1975. WAYGD?

Whilst drunk, I jumped over a fence with an unknown-to-me large drop on the other side. I was fine. So five minutes later I demonstrated to my friends what I’d done by doing it again. I was not fine.
What's the stupidest way you've hurt yourself?

Oh I'm so glad you asked! I knocked myself out with a frozen bag of omelettes.

New BCNR album is a good’un. Fun fact: I HATED all the advance singles, but they somehow work here, and the resulting suspicion that there’s some kind of black magic at work here makes me love it all the more.

Been enjoying Something To Fall Back On all week so jumped into the album this morning. It’s all Todd’s voice! The songs themselves are maybe done a disservice by the concept. But that itself makes it interesting enough to warrant more listens. A fun one.

A long playlist of all the good music I heard last year (one song per artist). Late, because it needed a month (some might say more) of extensive editing to make it manageable. You'd be a fool to try to listen to it all, but you might find some gems if you dip in.

I know no-one likes this album but IMHO it’s Mitski’s best. Is it so wrong to be a fan of choruses?

Watched a Christmassy Ted and remembered this pop trivia, the priest with the most boring voice Father Fitzgerald (Sean Barrett) in Ireland's largest lingeree section was on the cover of The Smith's single "How Soon is Now" a still from the 1958 film "Dunkirk".

Enjoying this article. A window into some sort of parallel universe where I have no idea what's going on. Did a search for these trends on Spotify though, and i'm quite looking forward to getting stuck into some Whimsigoth and Frutiger Aero tunes.
