I read Measure for Measure over the last couple weeks and it was more interesting and tragedy-adjacent than expected (the original did have a tragic ending; Shakespeare used the adaptation that gave it a comic/happy end for his own version)

side note the 3 times in my life I had a Sims phase (with games 1, 2, and 3) were the periods of unemployment I had in 2003, 2008, and 2011. I tried 4 a few years ago and if I wasn’t channeling all my depression energy into it the game just didn’t hit the same

it is but that’s what makes the game fun

later games have too much going on! I tried 4 and just could not even accomplish my basic tasks because everything took too much time if I went to the gym or something. 2 the GOAT

And I was like "hmm if we buy a turkey Friday night to start defrosting in the fridge will it still be OK Thursday" because we are always cutting it too close with a Sunday or Monday purchase

I do enjoy the low budget slapstick of both Holidate and Love Hard, though Christmas romcom is not my genre (I watched a bunch winter 2021 while up with a newborn). Bridget Jones Diary is for the dead week before NYE.

It’s a Wonderful Life every few years. Sometimes just fast forward through the parts of White Christmas I like best. We own Bad Santa but it’s been a while. Tween and I made Nutcracker and the Four Realms a thing for a few years. Watched NBC too many times in my life, still on a break.

the next thing is to make one (1) really big Trader Joe’s run in the next week or so and then simply not go back again until the end of December (we rely on a number of household staples from there but the holiday rush just never lets up until after Christmas, so we’ve learned to do One Last Trip)

there were also a TON of people pouring into the lights thing as we were leaving so we got to feel smug about that too
