“American Indian” is not an offensive term and the weirdos who searched through my tens of thousands of posts to try and find something they could use to label me a racist are not acting in good faith. The game of trying to set up rhetorical tripwires to attack people you hate is incredibly toxic.
When members of a marginalised group tell you to stop using a term to refer to them, it’s not hard to just… be gracious and stop doing it. Which is much easier and makes you look a lot better than doubling down on a racist term and telling the people who find it offensive that they’re wrong.

A lot of people have this idea that you can be like “I’m so sorry; I’ll do better next time” and the conflict will go away. But that presumes the people who do this have an actual grievance. They do not. They are trying to rhetorically attack you and you’re just showing them it works
