[November 13th, 1945] Lieut. Robert Hampton "Hammy" Gray of Nelson, B.C., was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for his heroic attack on a Japanese destroyer during World War II, which cost him his life. He was the 13th Canadian to receive the honor and the first Canadian Navy member to do so.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Piecework is how military clothing and uniforms were made 200yo and there is a straight line between that labour and this. Done by women, for next to nothing, this work built modern fashion, if not the modern world.
I interviewed one of these factory workers in Los Angeles. She gets paid three cents to sew a zipper, five cents for a collar, and seven cents to prepare the top part of a skirt.

Having worked on clothing in the navy I can say that “logistics gay” is a very common modern sentiment from the public to academic historians.
I know these guys are all dumber than a sack of hammers, but it is fascinating to see the military decide “logistics are gay” in real time

#OTD 1/10/1941 #RememberRCN -Appropriately named, Sail Training schooner HMCS ATTABOY is commissioned into the RCN. The owner, Lt. Thomas Fuller, RCNVR (AKA -The Pirate of the Adriatic for his exploits commanding MGB's) of Ottawa loaned the 38 ft schooner to train RCNVR sailors.

Got to look at 1950s sailor inventories today because apparently the RGSS never stopped requiring them! We saw records for deceased Indonesian passengers going to the Hajj and my first sailor killed by motor vehicle, hit by a lorry in Genoa while on leave.
