Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significant—though not final—victory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

Minneapolis residents aren’t just pushing back against Trump’s crackdown—they’re undercutting MAGA’s core philosophy, Adam Serwer argues.

The Ukrainian "Shchedryk" (Carol of the Bells) performed by a Swedish choir.

The choir’s director, its pianist, and several young singers are Ukrainian. The rest of the members are foreigners who learned our legendary "Shchedryk" in its original Ukrainian for this special performance.

Fondly remembering how, just five years ago, nurses were considered essential workers and officially categorized as such.

Now they have been uniformly demoted to nonprofessional status.

Sigh. Airline uncertainty had reduced our early Thanksgiving celebration by one son and daughter-in-law. They need to be back and can't afford the risk of not making it.

For generations, the federal government funded research that leads to medical breakthroughs & even cures.

But Trump’s massive cuts at NIH and beyond will make our country sicker, poorer, and worse off.

Like many of you, this is personal for me.

Saw Diane Keaton in the movie Hampstead on a flight home from Europe. Fun, quirky movie. Saw Book Club in a discount theatre. Silliest movie I'd ever seen and loved every minute of it. She will be missed.

Amazing photo of the Cougar Shadow on the Superstition Mountains taken by Jack Olson, an Apache Junction resident. He took this photo Sunday, September 14 at 6:24 p.m. The shadow can be seen on certain days, twice a year in March and September. Shared with his permission.

In unlikely relationship, endangered herons seek out Lincoln Park Zoo’s red wolves for protection
The birds rely on the red wolves to scare away smaller threats, such as raccoons and other birds of prey, from their nests.
