this is, imo, good news for bluesky- platforms like sprout social make it easier to cross-post here, which encourages a network effect that drives more content. The tradeoff of brands joining bluesky is totally worth it if it brings in sports leagues, entertainment reporting, and more culture media

Can a monkey write "Hamlet"? 🐒

The infinite monkey theorem states that given an infinite amount of time and a typewriter, a monkey randomly pressing keys would eventually produce every possible finite text – including the complete works of Shakespeare.

With legal challenges to this law pending, we cannot justify building the expensive required infrastructure.

For now, we have made the difficult decision to block access in Mississippi.

Our Response to Mississippi’s Age Assurance Law - Bluesky
A new Mississippi law requires us to block full access to Bluesky unless all users complete age checks. We have concerns about this law’s implementation.

It would actually be beautiful to destroy tech monopolies not by regulating them like utilities (which they are) but by forcing them to be as open as the early internet promised to be in the 90s with mandatory apis and adversarial interop and algorithmic choice and encouraging atpro, etc.

Whenever someone hits me with “well we’re just a bunch of pattern matching algorithms too”, I tend to agree. Not because it’s a remotely convincing philosophical argument for artificial intelligence, but because we both seem to be in agreement that they’re an NPC.
