Hogfather belongs in any top 5 Discworld list and the way Death behaves as the Hogfather is a big reason why

a lot of things ARE unfair, and when you see them from the perspective of the seven foot anthropomorphic personification of The End, there's no reason they should be that way at all

Ontario passed a law starting Jan 2026 that it is illegal for companies to ghost you.

If you have interviewed for a job they are legally required to inform you if they hire someone else or close the position.

The law also requires salary transparency on listings and disclosing use of AI

DOGE was always a very thinly disguised con to dress up data theft and extraction class destruction of federal corporate oversight as innovative, and it's important to remember that part of the reason it worked so well is that the press helped legitimize it
hey don't be so hard on yourselves; it delivered oceans of sensitive government and citizen data to billionaires

The agency disbanded eight months ahead of schedule.

it feels incredibly ridiculous I spent a good chunk of my career working on developing skills and experience in feature writing when there are very few jobs doing this anymore and then learning how Olivia Nuzzi got her job at Vanity Fair despite truly terrible ethics and questionable writing skills

No, there is no ceasefire in Gaza
Israel’s bombing of Gaza is not a ‘violation of the ceasefire'. It is a continuing genocide under diplomatic cover.

I once knew a Federal bank examiner, and one time someone asked him why we had to KEEP inspecting banks over and over. He basically said every new batch of business school grads invents bank fraud from first principles.
AirBnB CEO calling it “vibe revenue” just 👨‍🍳 😘

The underlying cause of every bubble - debt masquerading as financial innovation - depends on not just short financial memory & speculative neophytism, but reinventing jargon of finance, like how each generation of kids has new ways to say same things.

I get so mad about people being real shitty about chiropractors for similar reason: my bones are literally misaligned. the "move your bones around" practitioner reduces my pain drastically by returning my bones to where they belong!! a chiropractor also fixed my chronic sinus infections as a teen🤷
I mention this because people are talking about people leaning on woo woo, and a lot of people think acupuncture is woo woo, and I thought it was woo woo and someone walked in and took a look at me and then put a needle in my arm and it stopped the flare up. Period.
