My favourite part about Luxon deciding not to take a free $52k/year while he's PM is that he didn't decide to stop because he thinks it was unfair.
He's just sick of talking about it, and willing to give up more than a minimum wage worker is paid in a year just to not have to talk about it anymore.

Just consider for a moment that the $3b cost blowout that decided the govt on cancelling the critical InterIslander upgrade is equivalent to the value of the tax breaks this govt will extend to landlords over 3 years. And no-one but landlords will gain from that concession
