The biggest reason why I dislike the idea of respectability in dress is because it conflates the *appearance* of virtue with *actual* virtue. Wearing a suit doesn't make you respectful, intelligent, or capable, just as wearing a leather jacket doesn't make you rugged.

Lol yeah Conclave is easily the best best picture nom I’ve seen so far. Of course it’s wildly entertaining on top of being meticulous, gorgeous, incredibly meaningful in multiple ways and fantastically well performed, so the “it lacks depth” crowd moaned about it.

I have just finished Fool’s Fate by Robin Hobb and oh my word what a beautiful brilliant story. I read the first books when they came out (late 1990s?) but only getting around to the rest now. Very glad I rediscovered them
