Vaccines work - irrefutable
I have posted about this before, but...

Researchers at Pitt School of Public Health (with NIH funding) developed Project Tycho where they digitized reportable disease data from across the country going back to ~1900.

Throw the bums out.
Danielle Smith's MAGA machine is being rocked by the grassroots in Alberta who are done with their gaslighting and MAGA extremism.
The UCP brought in the recall petitions and now they are panicking that it is being used against them.
Keep it up Alberta resisters.

In the end, after she stared at me like this was some basic political disagreement and not a policy that evidence shows will kill kids, I had enough.

I told her she has blood on her hands and walked off.

Some great advice here for both new and experienced supervisors. The hardest one for me is “Rule 2: Define the scope – then halve it!”- must remember this next time 🤓

This week, I withdrew from a speaking engagement at a public university because they sent me a list of prohibited “words & concepts.” I will not humor this censorship. It does a disservice to the stories I’m discussing & the audience, who deserve unfettered access to information & conversation.

I teach an upper level writing class & also noticed more students were using AI. In my mid-term evaluation I asked students if they were using AI, 1/3 said they were. Those using it said they were only using it to clean up their writing*, those not using it said they felt at a disadvantage.

I had the good fortune once of serving with a man who heard an insult to a woman colleague from the man in leadership.

He said, in his usual calm voice, “You know how you just said (insult)?”

Took a beat.

“Never say that again.”

Yes, some people's legacies are complicated. For example, Watson. After all, though he was racist, don't forget his other traits. For example, he was also sexist. And also anti-semitic. And a data / idea thief. So let's not forget all the different facets.

Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

If you don't think rando MPs (and whoever else they share it with) should have access to personal information of individual applicants, reviewers, and students, confidential data, & full applications and reviews in every Canadian research grant (funded or not), please sign.

This is dangerous and makes a big step towards political control of science
Canadian researchers should be aware the there is a motion before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Research to force Tricouncils to hand over disaggregated peer review data on all applications:
Applicant names, profiles, demographics
Reviewers names, profiles, comments, and scores

It's OK to not be OK.

There's no shame. The brain is an organ. Just like the pancreas or the lungs. You wouldn't be ashamed to ask for help with lung disease or diabetes. Mental health is no different. Any organ can get out of whack occasionally. The brain is no different.

My kids are committed—they understand how vital this research is & know ~43% of Canadians will get cancer, with 25% dying from it.

They don’t want that for their generation. Please support or share their link:
