My first has novel earned out, and this year I got like $425! First book royalties I've ever seen outside of small advances. For money, I write for a trade publication. It's fun: I get to be an expert in a weird little corner of the world that sometimes bleeds out into the mainstream.

If you have a day job, be proud of your hard work. If you have family support, thank your benefactors that make your life possible. If you're a genius at grants, share the knowledge.

I love your work. Keep writing from your heart in the strange and beautiful way that can only come from you.

you could also write a whole can thesis about how straight authors who dabble in surrealist erotic thats just as 'out there' as mine is, like alan moore or nicholson baker, are perceived, vs a queer author doing it. i think thats probably a huge factor as well (also not a slight, love their work)

I sure am generalising here, but the main difference between the genders I've experienced dating them is that when I've called out a woman for behaving badly she has immediately apologised (while not changing, of course), while doing the same to a man gets a smirk, a shrug or a whine and that's it
