I think this is probably a new era of grand jury practice where there is communal awareness of abusive policing.
The GJ just doesn't believe the state.

JUST IN: Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Snell just confirmed, at the prodding of U.S. Magistrate Judge Keri Holleb Hotaling, that this motion for dismissal followed a "no bill" from a grand jury.

I read a blog post from Grace Atwood about evolving style (she’s a millennial) and one of her Gen Z assistants was helping her adopt more new silhouettes. In the process, she said, “I think your generation (millennials) is really focused on looking smaller, when mine is not.”

In normal democracy terms, we've in bad shape and things are getting worse.
In consolidated authoritarianism terms, we're doing pretty well, as the regime is haphazard, meeting resistance, and growing increasingly unpopular.
Depends on one's perspective. I started using the latter standard in Jan.

It is good to see the pushback on Trump lead to real losses for him. But it's hard to be optimistic when he still wields the enormous power of the presidency. ICE is still rampaging, HHS is harming people, the U.S. may be about to sell out Ukraine, the boat strikes...he's still doing so much damage.
