To do list for this moment:

1. Establish a discipline of calling your Congressional reps every day.
2. Join an ongoing organizing effort in your local community.
3. Take on at least one personal habit that expands your capacity for attention, compassion, and commitment.

I have personally had conversations with MAGA people that have changed their minds on this! They basically worked out to “here is a picture of Hunter Schaefer. What do you think happens to her on work trips if her passport says she is male.”
it’s also a thing where people can be convinced. the right got some people worked up about trans women in sports but possible to get people a lot more worked up about individual/parental rights, genital inspectors, etc
I think Democrats should double down on trans rights now. It's obvious that most voters don't care about it so you might as well stick with your principles and goad Republicans into focusing on it at the expense of everything else so they're the ones who look like freaks.

unbelievably, this is worse in Germany than in the U.S..
I like the little cards that have a small image of something wintry under each door (not religious but not quite as bad as the rest); however, my local grocery store has a Red Bull "advent calendar" that makes me very disgruntled.

Türkiye’s role as host of #COP31 in 2026 is a major opportunity to test the country's climate ambition.

The Turkish Climate Network is calling on it to:

☝️Set an ambitious climate target and cut emissions now

☝️End new coal and advance a just transition away from coal

Really important to stress that the Crown Jewels of the US higher education system were never the Ivies or elite SLACs (other countries have equivalents of these) but the well-funded, large, cheap, and excellently staffed public state university systems bringing high quality education to the masses.
One of the bragging rights that the US ed system had in the 20th century is that we didn't have education tracks. Essentially, any kid could go to a CC or state school & major in whatever they wanted to (obviously an oversimplification). I fear this aspect of the American dream is dying.

It feels like it takes different strategies to deal with support for fascist parties driven by cynicism/disaffection vs that driven by straightforward ideological embrace.

But I bet the commonality is something like “know what you believe in and actively contest for it.”
❗ Our findings show that AfD youth support is not only strikingly stable, but also closely linked to #partyidentification and #nativist attitudes - pointing to broader partisan realignment and #normalisation underway (rather than 'protest' voting).

Placed the stolpersteine in Hamburg for my husband’s family today. A very moving experience. His grandfather left Germany, cutting his HS education short; the parents stayed behind to wrap up their business. They were swept up in Polenaktion instead.

We named our daughter Rosa, too.

Stunning moment:

Mamdani is asked if he still considers Trump a fascist.

As he begins answering, Trump, while slapping Mamdani on the arm, interrupts: "Just say yes, I don't mind."

An absolute scandal compounded in this case by failure of French government and EU institutions to forcefully react and sanction in turn those who have sanctioned ICC judges and prosecutors. Makes a total mockery of FR/EU's repeated commitment to the rule of law/ICC

I would like to see some sort of signal somewhere that European governments understand that they are being threatened and targeted by the Trump administration, which is in league with domestic far-right parties that wish to destroy liberal democracy. www.bbc.com/news/article...
US says countries with DEI policies as infringing human rights
US officials say the rules will stop "destructive ideologies" but others argue it is redefining human rights principles for Trump's goals.

I have been rereading William Stringfellow and his statement that one mark of Christian virtue is being the same person in every situation lands quite differently in the wake of the great Charlie Kirk discourse.

if you want to know why US government doesn’t work good and relies on an incredibly dense regulatory kludge to provide social outcomes you have to talk about state capacity!! At every level!! That needs to be the actual centerpiece to your argument! Including the hatchet men who have demolished it!

Good. Seems pretty obvious: the pipeline did not become less harmful to the environment than the previous times it was rejected!
⚠️ Breaking: Enviro groups sue NY and NJ over NESE pipeline approvals, in three parallel suits before the US Court of Appeals, Second Circuit.

They cite regulators’ previous, repeated decisions rejecting the pipeline.
