Hey there. Thanks for the add and/or peeping the profile. Just an FYI if you do keep me around: about 90% of my skeetage is an uneven mix of @psp.bsky.social promotion, thoughts on film/music/pop culture, reactionary posts about politics, & the occasional pro wrestling take, so apologies in advance!
Much of this continued defense of Dano & Lillard smacks of folks wanting not so much to take up for them, but to take QT down a peg ‘cause they hate him.

This same performative lot would lose their shit if they saw what some peers & actual media rags said about guys like Fraser & Keanu 30 years ago

Lovely tributes all over for Reiner. I co-host a pod w/ @camburnspsp.bsky.social about curing filmmakers' big movie blind spots, & Rob's become a running gag on it, coming up when talking not just his films, but killer directorial runs (& legit, 2 of our next 5 episodes are on films from said run).

The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

Rob Reiner made some great movies but he was also unafraid to speak the truth, and was one of the public voices who knew you don’t squander your platform, and only got louder about opposing evil fucks as he got older. Legend.

I just read the new SPINAL TAP book and there’s a moment where Rob Reiner and the rest of the cast ask each other which projects will lead their obituary. Rob was sure “Meathead” was going to be the first line of his.

Tonight, everyone’s teeing off with “one of the greatest directing runs ever”

Wrestlers retire by putting an active guy over in a loss & leaving their boots in the ring, & Cena—a consummate pro who respects the business & tradition—wasn’t going out any other way, big a star as he may be. Y’all worked yourselves into a shoot over that ending, which was the exact right finish.

I haven’t been this excited for a bubble to burst since I was a toddler.
MIT’s NANDA initiative found that 95% of generative AI deployments fail after interviewing 150 execs, surveying 350 workers, and analyzing 300 projects. The real “productivity gains” seem to come from layoffs and squeezing more work from fewer people not AI.
MIT report: 95% of generative AI pilots at companies are failing
There’s a stark difference in success rates between companies that purchase AI tools from vendors and those that build them internally.

We asked this very ? to @grahamskipper.bsky.social & @gholson.bsky.social on our latest pod & the gents (who were on promoting their new film, #ManFindsTape) had great answers: Graham’s was opening night of ‘BLAIR WITCH’ in NYC & John’s was his theater collectively turning against ‘MISSION TO MARS’.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

In addition to throwing actual conspirators in prison, a proper reckoning for the Great Sacking of America would also include the dismantling of Nazi-friendly legacy media orgs like TIME, NYT, WaPo, etc., and using their funds to start actual journalist outlets with their non-collaborator employees.
Representing oligarchs as working class heroes is a new low…even for us.

I think if they really dump AI content onto Disney+ they'll find out real quick that NOBODY wants to see that shit. But it's so symbolic of the state of things that the name that once meant the very peak of hand drawn animation is now in league with the stock market scam anti-human garbage machine.

"Just vibin' off your vibe. Keeping' in vibey. Super comfy, a total vibe."

Kill it. Kill me. Whatever.
An absolute horrific nightmare of two AI bots caught in a loop with each other is the perfect example of the total nothingness of AI “brains”.

Was glad to pod w/ @beckysayers.bsky.social again & glad to chat w/ 2 of the countless good humans in the #Austin film scene, several of whom helped make #ManFindsTape! The gents told many a good story here, but—of all things—I’m still laughing about John’s theater turning against MISSION TO MARS… 🤣
New pod alert: we’re back this week talking w/ @grahamskipper.bsky.social & @gholson.bsky.social, stars of the new horror/thriller #ManFindsTape, about the film, its themes, working w/ an amazing Austin cast & crew, & more! You can find & listen to the episode now via linktr.ee/paperstreetpodcast

"All is lost" narratives are popular because people generally do not want to take action. Taking action is tiring so if all is lost, you are off the hook. Nothing is more seductive than not having to do anything.

Many come to mind, but a recent Onion header that killed it was “Trump Spends Entire U.K. Trip Trying To Figure Out Where He Knows Prince Andrew From”.

Great thread here, though, replies and quote posts alike:
What is the quintessential Onion headline? The strong contender that just randomly popped in my mind is "Hank Williams Jr. Honored by Institute For Football Preparedness"

Great day to get TF off Twitter.

EL0N proving yet again that so much of the dissent, lies, & hatred that spreads here is fueled by bots, foreign agents, & the man himself via his disinfo machine.

Y’all will cancel services, companies, & people for much less, so why TF are you still on there?

"We're adding default A.I. scraping. You want it turned off? No problem, *but* it'll kill half of the features you've been using for years now."

Google enshittification'ing Gmail yet again. Cool.
Google removes a variety of longstanding GMail features if you try to withdraw your default consent (!) to having all your content read and used by Google Gemini via "Smart Features." That's an obvious attempt to coerce consent for privacy violations. Legislatures must act to make this illegal.

A fitting pick not only for the season, but for the #ScarePackage series' own final girl to de-blindspot a classic that features one of the O.G. final girls. Fun chat, even when we veer into talking the franchise's lesser entries, BLACK CHRISTMAS, and (*checks notes*) SPY KIDS and THE PARENT TRAP?
New pod alert: actor/our fav. final girl Zoe Graham was #LateToTheParty on #HALLOWEEN, but we're glad she made it! We talk John Carpenter's horror classic, its score, the franchise's timeline(s), JLC's proto-final girl "Laurie Strode" & more!" You can find the episode here: linktr.ee/paperstreetp...

Between Miller plagiarizing Goebbels, the Young Repubs' H!tler-praising leaked texts, & a GOP Rep. sporting a swast!ka in his DC office, the "Don't call us N@zis!" crowd are doing jack-all to beat the allegations.
