Robert Altman's 'The Long Goodbye' wasn't dreck, but it was a flop on the West Coast, where it had a more traditionally noirish poster—so when it moved to the East Coast a few months later (as US-wide saturation releases were still a couple of years away), they hired Davis to revamp the poster.

Robert Altman's 'The Long Goodbye' wasn't dreck, but it was a flop on the West Coast, where it had a more traditionally noirish poster—so when it moved to the East Coast a few months later (as US-wide saturation releases were still a couple of years away), they hired Davis to revamp the poster.
I posted to a Doves message board at the time and the best comment was something like "Not surprised. He's a (Manchester) City supporter, so used to watching a shit club in shit weather, probably felt at home."
