The problem with climate change is we have to convince a bunch of people that future people are actual people, when they don't even believe some currently alive people are people.

It’s about to be pants under other pants weather if you spend time waiting for the bus in Seattle.

It’s constrained housing supply *coupled with* wage inequality that causes rents to go up, and poverty, displacement, and homelessness to increase. Taxing wage inequality is one of the fairest ways to fund subsidized housing when the private market hasn’t responded yet with increased supply.

Yes, we want a land value tax. Is that something Seattle’s Mayor has power over? Probably not! If you just reply LVT to our posts how is that helpful? What’s the policy proposal to spur more housing in the next year or two?

I think it’s very interesting that Seattle’s left is likely to be the ones that kill inclusionary zoning. Anti-market fundamentalism has no home here!
Hello Seattle Urbanists — if we want market rate development to happen with all the interest rates and tariffs and other barriers we have to get rid of MHA temporarily to speed up housing. And we have to get rid of minimum parking requirements. Asap.

👇 !!!! Yes
We can just replace the lost MHA revenue with a higher tax on wage inequality (increase Junpstart).

Wilson is being asked to do national and international press and is having to say no to a lot of it and is meeting with community instead. That’s impressive.
It was my profound honor to spend time last night at New Holly Gathering Hall with community organizers, leaders, and members who helped propel our campaign to victory. As I prepare to govern for all of Seattle, I look forward to continuing to deepen relationships across our city.

Katie Wilson, Seattle’s newly elected mayor, called for divesting money away from the police department in 2020. She has since pledged to maintain funding for the department, but also supports a new non-police crisis response team.

here's my urbanist wish list for mayor elect katie wilson.

what are your top urbanist asks?
5 things i hope katie wilson implements in the first few months.

1. path to eliminating parking minimums - and introduce maxes and caps - *citywide*

there are more cars in seattle today than ever before. we need a path to deprioritize cars and reclaim space for people

bonus 6th: bring back (affordable) fixed station bike share

floating bike share suuuuucks. city bike was incredibly easy to use (much as toronto's). it's cleaner, and citi bike's corrals were a great way to daylight intersections

5. codistricts!

we need to find a way to rezone areas of the city that aren't just urban cannibalism - devouring existing affordable homes & small retail for massive, expensive buildings w/ zero space for nature or community.

4. passivhaus!

we're already seeing effects of climate change: seasonal wildfire smoke, heat events, etc. the city should build all new public buildings (and retrofit where makes sense) to the passivhaus standard in order to protect employees and public, and build an ecosystem to deliver affordably
