For the bajillionth time:

Write WTF you want to write. If you want to get to “publishable” that is an additional layer of craft from “look, I made this.” This is true whatever genre you are writing in.

Sales are largely out of your control. Craft & hitting deadlines are all you control.

A dark science-fiction novelette On the run, the leftover crew of the Magpie takes on a job for the eccentric lead physician of the Centipede, a space station free of the Lamia Mining Commission's influence. Looting is not what the Magpie was built for, but debts to maintain freedom must be paid. Any job is a good job. Within the ghost ship, Mesmer 003, is a valuable reactor core behind a biometric lock. Only the Mesmer's command, now deceased, could open the vault. The Magpie's doctor has a macabre solution.

I am only on Bluesky now. I left X a year ago because I couldn't stand all the misinformation & hate & FB in 2022 after I finished my chemo treatment. I have a feeling if I go to X & ask Grok about me, it'll probably say my absence is due to dying of cancer! 😂

- Brother’s Keeper, book one of my fantasy WIP about two brothers bound by a misunderstood power.
"I will not argue," Drisal said. "Drink." He obeyed, draining the pitcher in a few long swallows, and set it down. Drisal was not wrong. In truth it would take more Water than this to steady him. He wiped his mouth on a dirty sleeve. "You look terrible," his brother added. "Oh, thank you very—" Drisal clapped his hand over Rushak's mouth. "You're white as Iryla's Tooth. Don't you realize you might attract the attention of the royal healers again? Bruises and cuts are one thing, but if it's something they can't repair..." He glared at him a moment, then released him. "Sorry." Rushak stripped off his SHIRT, the good one from Rälla Etania, and dropped it. It was ruined. He snatched the clean tunic out of Drisal's hand, tugged it over his head, shook out his hair and spread his arms with a grimace. "Well, now I look better." Brother's Keeper A.C. Turek

A werewolf can kill you with a single scratch. Nine of every ten people wounded by a werewolf will contract lycanthrope. Of those, all but one in one hundred people infected will die of it rather than become a werewolf. Lycanthropy gestates in the body for roughly four weeks, give or take. Then symptoms manifest. It’s like rabies with extra teeth. Amber stared at the claw wounds on her calf and her forearm. Ugly red gashes across pale flesh, open and leaking blood. Then she stared at the dead werewolf ten feet to her right. Smoke drifted from a cavernous wound in its chest. Her bodyguard had unloaded silver grapeshot into the beast. The wound should hurt. Instead she felt numb. Twenty eight days, give or take, and then she would know if she would live or die. Then she would know if she was going to howl at the moon or curl up into a ball of pain as her body stopped working.
