Little update. Mostly been off bsky coz I've had some complications involving fevers, bleeding. It's been a rough six weeks, physically, mentally, emotionally. Would have liked to have rested but I gotta pay for the hospital bills and various tests and medications. Anything you can spare will help.

Hi all; I'm going to undergo a significant procedure later this year (sorry, would rather not disclose) and my husband's health insurance doesn't cover it. We're going to need funds for the care during and after. Any help would be much appreciated:

I have never, ever heard a reader say their problem is too few books on the market.

I’ve heard MANY say there are so many that it’s hard to find *quality* reads, which is why they’re loyal to certain authors + publishers.

This “business” is solving a problem that doesn’t exist, using stolen work
marcorinaldi.bsky.social
Why? Who is this meant to be good for? Nobody wants your shit AI books, never mind 8,000 in a year. Just a terrible idea and a horrible road the publishing industry is heading down.
Bookseller article with the headline "New publisher Spines aims to 'disrupt' industry by using AI to publish 8,000 books in 2025 alone" 🤮🤮🤮

Jane Goodall was one of perhaps a handful of people I've ever heard speak, like the Dalai Lama, who you just feel their presence and aura as someone truly special.

Truly was glad I got to be around her in person, once - something I won't ever forget. 🙏

When my grandfather died in 2004, I was 11. At his home in Nijmegen I found a battered briefcase, unopened for years. Inside: photos, consular forms and letters — a history of falling empire, colonial decoupling and rising nationalism that marked those who lived it.

A powerful speech by Ahmed al-Sharaa that reminded us that the oppressed and tormented Syrian people, after years of suffering under the Assad regime, whose barrel bombs were no different from the 2,000-pound bombs dropped by Israel on the neighborhoods and refugee camps in Gaza, have finally won.
"Before we conclude, let me affirm that the suffering Syria endured, we wish upon no one; we are among the people most deeply aware of the horrors of war and destruction. For this reason, we stand firmly with the people of Gaza, its children and women, and all people facing aggression and call for an immediate end to the war."

Ahmed al-Shara, in his speech at UNGA, was the first Syrian President to address the UN in 60 years!

It's my birthday!
I don't usually make that public—too many birthday greetings make me want to crawl under a rock—but this year, I have some requests!
If you're willing to do even one of these, I would appreciate it deeply.

Hi, I'm Katy an Illustrator from the UK.

I love to paint anything fantasy - especially dragons and have worked on a number of ttrpg books, boardgames and book covers.

You can find my portfolio here - www.kovah.co.uk

I've also co-authored a book - www.sulbook.com
Looking down over the side of a ship you see a pirate cat climbing up in the anchor rope, it's fur is ginger tabby and she has a mischievous grin on her face. Trouble is coming. A man dwarfed by a huge tree stands on an outcropping of roots in a large jungle gorge. Light streams down illuminating the mist and the foliage all around. The Nightmare in Ivory, the ancient white dragon Guiladon chomps down on the tiny hut of Caleb Widogast as the Mighty Nein try to make their escape from her icy lair. As they scream inside hoping the magic will protect them long enough for them to escape.

From Critical Role. The demoness Aysel reaching down or perhaps dropping a small Sulaai boy into the trees, her wings outstretched as she flies.

From a scene in the book Sul: From Gold to Iron to Rust. Co-authored and Illustrated by Katy Grierson and Jacqui Davis.

Ted Chiang:
"The task that generative A.I. has been most successful at is lowering our expectations, both of the things we read and of ourselves when we write [...]. It is a fundamentally dehumanizing technology because it treats us as less than what we are: creators and apprehenders of meaning."
