Middle-aged trans woman surviving the apocalypse with baking, flowers/trees, silly times with my kid, and some righteous indignation.
This is horrifying. This is what the anti-trans bigots want. This is what people whinging about sports in lieu of standing strongly for trans people's rights enables - sanctioned rape of trans people. Don't tell me that anyone cares about "protecting women" when they support institutional rape.
New from me: The DOJ plans to dismantle protections for trans and intersex people in federal, state, and local prisons, jails, and youth detention facilities, according to a government memo obtained by Prism.

Agreed completely. It's not just "the cruelty is the point," although that's true. It's the belief that the cruelty will deliver something it cannot to a broken person's broken ego. Dangerous, b/c the broken people will keep increasing the cruelty to try to get their elusive righteousness. 1/4
Cruelty is anhedonic. It rarely delivers the euphoria promised because, in the abstract, what feels righteous and joyful inevitably reveals itself to be sordid and small. Then it's "No not like that". "No not enough". "No the real battle, the forever war to make this feel good starts now". Forever.
Note how these awful people are getting exactly the exclusions of children that they demanded and *that still isn’t enough for them*: they demand everyone be delighted about it and kiss their arses for being brilliant.

I watched a cis person stumbling under verbal hectoring by a trans hater; this particular bigot was rehashing one of their little obsessions - how trans women's vaginas are 'fake'. They also seem pervertedly obsessed with dilation as proof of fakeness. Here's a point I wish the defender had made: 1/

I think the move of being a mediocre young white cishet conservative woman who gets notoriety by seeking out contrived victimhood by framing a marginalized person as the perpetrator, should be forever named after Riley Gaines. A la Kavanaugh Stop.

Would that institutions cared enough about the human rights of trans people to risk the destruction of their institution rather than comply with fascist bigotry. But again and again, we see people and institutions unwilling to take on great risk for the sake of of trans people's rights.

Part of my trans awakening was a book called "Boys & Sex," by Wardell Pomeroy, a sex-ed book for ~teens from the 1960s. I bought it myself when I was around 10. I don't know why I rode my bike to the bookstore and bought this book; I just know I did and my mother was rather shocked about it. 1/

Yeah, this is what "big tent" centrism really means. "Your 'purity tests' won't let me pal around with misogynists who want stereotyped gender."
1. Over Thanksgiving, texts from Dem. Sen Ruben Gallego leaked where he repeats far-right talking points on masculinity, lamenting that Democratic women "look like men."

Using far-right gender-panic rhetoric will not ingratiate the Democratic Party towards men.

This is disgusting. If you're dehumanizing the person in your care, especially when they are under anesthesia, you are unfit to provide care to anyone.

The Democratic party is functionally at least two parties, with one constituency most like the Greens in the UK, or Mamdani/DSA in the U.S., and the other constituency like Labour in the UK, and trad DNC, Schumer, Buttigieg, Clinton, etc. in the U.S. What is frustrating for the former is… 1/4

Whenever we've turned back the authoritarianism, and we've successfully repelled fascism, there will be voices in the center arguing for national comity. They will want to "just get along" by forgiving/forgetting. We should not allow the relief of winning to distract us from a proper Reconstruction.

If comedians et al who whine about being cancelled had any talent, they'd mock the irony of own grubby descent into self-identification as a put-upon victim in order to make money when most of their historic material leans on mocking people victimized by society.

🧵 I'm not sure people in the U.S. understand the fundamental difference between public health and personal health ('healthcare') as systems. We have a massive, unwieldy, capitalist personal healthcare system that functions at a scale to look ~public. But it focuses on the individual's health. 1/

My most hard-earned insight: showing vulnerability in how we show up & relate to others is strength. Not victimhood, but statements of revealing truth. Our country is being run by weak men, who think vulnerability is weakness, who posture fake strength b/c they're too scared to be vulnerable. 1/

For the NYT and mainstream media, there are simply 2 or more contrary viewpoints on everything, reported as equally valid, and nothing more can be reported regarding the veracity, morality, or context of anything that happens.
How did the @nytimes.com editors let this sentence appear?

"Critics have likened Mr. Trump’s approach to extortion, while others have chalked it up as a cost of doing business with this administration."

I think society should be a heckuva lot more freaked out by AI passing as human than trans women passing as cis women.

It's toxic femininity when so-called 'feminists' argue that all women should be transvestigated if their features are perceived as masculine by anyone. Toxic femininity is having to prove your womanhood to the satisfaction of every other woman and the men they bring in to enforce their standards.

Watched a ~documentary police procedural thing on Netflix called "Missing: Dead or Alive." The last episode of the just released season featured a young trans woman. The police were pretty respectful of her gender identity, but the family consistently misgendered her while affirming.. 1/

"Asking ChatGPT" is not "doing research." I can ask crazy Uncle Larry's opinion, too, and he can tell me he read all the relevant material too. You are abandoning critical thinking at a moment where we desperately need more of it, not less.
