Central Station, Manchester. Going on 150 years old and looking as insubstantial as a soap bubble this morning.

First day out as an orphan, so feeling a bit intense.

Voting against a step in the right direction in favour of an unachievable dream is excellent leftwinging, btw.
Zarah Sultana voted with the Tories in every vote on the Employment Rights Bill last night.

That includes voting to keep the Lords' wrecking amendments on strike ballot thresholds and to keep the 2016 Trade Union Act's restrictions on unions' political funds.

One thing I'm enjoying about the Martin Parr RIPS today is every one has a different photo attached, including both of mine.

Sad to hear about Martin Parr. Light and warm. A critical eye that didn't criticise.

Luckily I asked my dad to put names and/or any bits of info he could remember to his collection of old photos 2 or 3 years before he died. There's only a location on this, no names but I recognise Alf Hoadley from another pic so can estimate a date. Anyway, get those pencils out, folks.
Mam died last week and today has been finalising funeral arrangements. Brother and sister working through 100's of mother pics for display at the tea while I'm nodding along, transfixed by the faces of nameless ghosts from 100+ years ago.

Personally, I'm entirely comfortable with even radically differing interpretations of artworks being 'correct' provided they're compellingly argued using logic to create valid but contradictory hypotheses. It can be a Christmas movie and not a Christmas movie at the same time.

Just had a convo, she's moaning about getting an emergency doctors appointment at 7 pm last night.
Me: Hang on, you got a Dr. appt 7pm SUNDAY NIGHT? That's incredible.
Her: It's disgusting, Boots were closed, had to find the emergency pharmacy.

I swear, some fucking people.

It's not that good news stories don't exist, they're just hard to find. Christian Bale building a village to keep foster siblings together.

Watching this helps us foreigners make sense of the current USA enormously. Thank you.

Suspicious distracting from his small boat if you ask me.

Just watched BBC news describe the Chancellor as "hurtling towards the budget." It's changed my attitude towards a simple understanding of the progress of time. From now I'll be careening towards the weekend, bowling towards a week on Monday and galloping towards Christmas.

On the BBC controversy, I've got nothing much to say other than an exec resigning before being forced out has really thrown a lot of people.

I'll join the acclaim, albeit muted in my case, for Pluribus. Only 2 episodes in and it seems thoughtful, questioning and funny. Defo in for Ep 3.
On a side note, like Gilligan's other Alberque series it has me wondering about the MN climate. Always sunny but seasonal sounds about perfect.

The tech driven imperative to screw up your entire life by leaving your phone in Starbucks continues apace.

Ford wants you to stash it in your belt buckle, but there’s absolutely no need to be lugging around a bulky fob. Trouble is, phone-as-a-key tech could be superseded before it even gets going. www.wired.com/story/why-ar...
