Reminder that Russia’s war on Ukraine is not some locked conflict, with soldiers taking occasional pot-shots across wire-topped fences.

It’s Russia systematically murdering Ukrainians every day.

Russian attack on civilians in the Sumy region while people were trying to evacuate to safety.

An injured man is sitting over the body of a woman that Russia just murdered. One Russian FPV drone killed the woman, then killed the man.

Defeating a fascist regime whose death squads kill with impunity and evident pleasure, will demand many more sacrifices.

When will it be indistinguishable from a civil war?

Note to self: Never buy American again, if avoidable.
🤔 Trump: We have never needed them (NATO). We have never asked anything of them.

You know they say they sent troops to Afghanistan, and they did.

They stayed a little back, little off the frontlines.

But the sky still does. ✨

For the second night in a row, the skies over Ukraine are magnificent.

What does federal crimes matter with trump wielding the pardon.

None of the regime will ever face charges, unless they anger trump personally.
If you weaponize the DOJ to intimidate elected officials, that’s not “politics.” It’s a federal crime. Retaliatory investigations violate civil‑rights and obstruction laws. Anyone turning law enforcement into a threat is advertising their own liability.

Venice treacle

When the English gentleman John Evelyn left Venice in 1646, after almost a year in Venice and Padua, he had more stuff than when he had arrived.

From his diary for late March 1646:

Venice treacle, or theriac, was an ancient wonder medicine, an antidote for most poisons and a cure for most ailments, including the plague.

A few months ago Chris Philp called me “unhinged” in a Telegraph article about a video I made.

In it I warned about the brutality of ICE, & argued those who appease Trump would open the door to Fascism here too. I was called ‘hysterical’.

I have 0 regrets about that message.

The Provveditori e Sopraprovveditori sopra Banchi were, in 1524, charged with overseeing the banks operating in Venice, around the markets at Rialto.

Since the Middle Ages, noble families had operated banking activities around the Rialto with insufficient oversight.

In Venice, there's a statue of a bearded man on the façade of the church of San Zulian, above the entrance.

Yet another saint, one presumes, walking on towards St Mark's.

Well, no! That's Tommaso Ravenna, astrologer & physician, who in the 1500s got rich and famous selling remedies for syphilis.
