Italian Ministry of Environment confirms former Chancellor of University of Messina, under investigation for embezzlement, suspended from commission that evaluates environmental impact of infrastructure projects. I could ask why a Professor of Pharmacology was on this commission in the first place.

Italian Ministry of Environment confirms former Chancellor of University of Messina, under investigation for embezzlement, suspended from commission that evaluates environmental impact of infrastructure projects. I could ask why a Professor of Pharmacology was on this commission in the first place.

And for those who rightly ask "why do you vote for these people?" the answer is that you can only vote for the candidates put up by the parties and the parties (left, right or centre) put up these people in Sicily. Anybody attempting to break out of this "system" is quickly isolated and stifled.
As a new water crisis hits Sicily Governor says "people will not have to go without water" to people who are so used to going without water they just shrug their shoulders. This is the level of political discourse on infrastructure in in Sicily and has been for the 40 years I have lived here.

No surprises in 3 Italian regional elections held yesterday & today with centre-left holding on to power in Campania & Puglia, and centre-right doing likewise in Veneto. All winning candidates for Governor, Fico (M5S) in Campania, Decaro (PD) in Puglia, and Stefani (Lega) in Veneto, polled over 60%.

I reckon those Italian politicians and commentators who are happy with the idea of Ukraine giving up Crimea and Donbas would secretly love some other country to invade and occupy Sicily, Calabria and/or other southern regions just so they don't have to bother with them any more.

Regional government elections are being held today in Veneto, Puglia & Campania. If things go as predicted there should be easy wins for the centre-right in Veneto & the centre-left in Puglia. Campania should also go to the centre-left by a smaller majority. Voting continues tomorrow until 3 p.m.
