Johnson's major achievements are jamming through a regressive "big beautiful" bill chock full of politically disastrous items and ensuring Congress remained entirely prone (and often out of session) as Trump seized dictatorial power.
Now Mike wonders why he's a widely reviled and mocked failure.
New in PN: Mike Johnson's downward spiral

"His speakership is a story of chaos and failure at a time when he and his party should be racking up wins. Apparently, the Lord played a trick on his humble servant: He may have given Johnson the job, but He didn’t say he’d be any good at it."
Mike Johnson's downward spiral
Speaker of the House is a tough job. But he's particularly bad at it.

I've loved Sigourney Weaver ever since one of my all-time favorite movies, ALIEN. Couldn't resist going all fanboy on her yesterday & asking for a photo. She told me she's now in the cast of The Mandalorian. Talk about bad timing: she's now in that galaxy far, far away, years after I checked out! 💔

Rand Paul: "This is an insane policy. It's inconsistent. It's not war. It's not the way we've ever done this. If we can blow up a boat in the ocean, what about when they get to Miami & put it in a truck? Can you shoot a grenade launcher at the truck? No! We arrest people b/c sometimes we're wrong."

What's so upsetting about the My Lai massacre is that the victims had no idea what was going on; other than U.S. troops came in blasting away. My Lai wasn't an enemy outpost. It was just a village.

The boat stikes gives the same vibe. Especially not knowing whether they were fisherman or not. 😔

In this Tom Cotton speculates that one of the shipwrecked men “taking off his tshirt” was a hostile act that required his execution by missile from miles away.

One of the most insane, sickening things I’ve ever heard from a US leader
WELKER: Lawmakers say the 2 men appeared to raise their arms potentially to surrender. Why did Admiral Bradley interpret these actions as anything other than them trying to survive?

TOM COTTON: They were sitting or standing on top of a capsized boat. They weren't floating helplessly in the water

In other words, Trump admits he was trying to use his pardon power to buy Republicans a House seat.

It's because they have never intended to have a plan. They just want the ACA to go away. That is their plan.
Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick: "I've heard so many people in the Republican conference rail on the ACA, rail on Obamacare, rail on the premium tax credits…They have never offered a better alternative…They still have not been able to put together an articulable plan."
